Driving job advice/leads possibly??

Pure Luck, answered a craigslist gigs ad :lmao:

College Degrees in Telecommunications technology and Computer technology back in the 80's and over 30 years experience in the trade at the time I got that job over 10 years ago. Yep I am a senior citizen now :lmao:

Sounds very appealing! I'm 25 years into Telcom career. Done just about everything.
Would you mind sharing the company via pm? I'm aware of most of the gov contractors, but you've caught my interest.

It's more that I don't believe it. You cam only run a truck 12 hours and all the oil field work is 7, 10, 14, or 20 day hitches. You might work a week of 14 hour days, but your off the next week.
We don't run a log book, 100 mile radius doesn't require one, technically not supposed to go over 14 hours still but they can't enforce it without proof

Thats very common in the industry and due to insurance/ambulance chasers. My 'commercial' 1ton insurance is retarded.

I don’t get the value prop of the driver facing camera other than constructive dismissal.

There’s no accident that the employer is liable for where “our driver was clearly doing their job and we have it on video” let’s them weasel out.

there are many accidents and incidents and general observations where "our driver was on his phone and we have proof of it" and other such examples.

They will fire you if the see you doing something against "code of conduct" even without an accident. It's like a body cam for the cops, it cuts down on the bullshit

Same. No DOT annual. Ran for 8 months without a license plate. Old one broke off somewhere and it took forever for management to get another.

I do a pretrip, but that's mostly cause I want to catch shit in a nice warm building and not an hour away in -50* weather.

I use to drive many years ago, we were able to get away with murder, no way could I drive today with all the bullshit regulations…. no fuckin way.

I use to drive for a company and we did all Fords commercials and advertising materials. Those were the good ol days, fast semis, nobody fucked with use, we had some of the nicest looking trucks on the road.
I look at what’s going on today and shake my head.

A “truck driver “ is the most popular job in the Country today, every company with trucks is looking to hire drivers.

Word on the street is the insurance wants a scapegoat... or a reason to increase premiums.

Billboard/cimmercial everywhere with a wrecked truck and lawyer "27 million dollar settlement!"

$1,837 paid to plaintiff

When I hotshot with a 1 ton pickup I was averaging 1.5-2k gross a week but I was hustling my ass off to do it. 25% of the load and my best couple weeks paid 3.5k gross. OTR I'd say its entirely possible. Surely actual truck loads make above $2/mile
Owner operator possibly but not driving company tractor.

I'm not a trucker but feel like it sometimes as my job is covering of 3000 square miles of Northern California so plenty of window time.

Been at it for over 10 years and I make over $12k/month net working 40 hrs a week, it takes time to work up to that pay level and at 2 years I wasn't making that.

You seem to be expecting too much at only being a 2 year employee, what do the others make there that have been there far longer?
What the heck are you doing to make $12k net a week?

I'm actually on the lower end of what winch truck drivers make, been offered several more dollars an hour at other places, and I wasn't complaining about my pay at all?, I stuck around for the pace and the small company atmosphere but I found out yesterday hard work and dedication ain't worth a fuck to them so I don't want to make them money anymore
What they do? Not give you the raise you expected or?!?

Last outfit I drove for announced they were gonna install forward facing dash cams to get a break on insurance, they could also be viewed live somehow. So we all said that's great no problem with it but don't even think about driver cams because if you do you're gonna need to hire a ton of new drivers. Oh no we would never do that they said.

So I get my cam, a few days later I noticed it's been moved a little, then again and again over the course of a couple of weeks. I ask why and they say something is interfering with it, can't video well enough bla bla bla.

So the last time they move it a day or two later I notice I can see the cameras lens reflected in the windshield. Right away I think well if I can see that lens it can see me too. The drivers were furious and let the boss know he better start looking. I think it took them 3 or 4 days to remove all the cams from the trucks.

Yes, if you own the truck. Need connections and dedicated hauls to keep that $2. If you get loads off central dispatch, or deal with brokers, I doubt they see $1.50/mile. Then you have clowns just wanting a back haul to cover fuel and cut everyone's throat.

IIRC, the megacorps pay 30-50 cents a mile. All based on the drivers cred and sliding scale meant to fuck the driver.
And that is dog shit pay even at $.50 a mile. $250 for 500 miles and that’s about all you can drive in a day if things roll good.

I was on a run last week, did the job at $1.50/mile because I have a 10+ year relationship with the business. I get to the other location 500 miles away and they told me that pay their driver 25 cents a mile + expenses. Some people are willing to work for nothing.

Go figure READING owns Linkslide :lmao:

Reread the part about $12k/month :homer:

$12k/month is virtually minimum wage in CA, Starbucks cashiers makes more :flipoff2:

The fuel delivery drivers usually make $100k before taxes and home every day .

Haz mat tanker is usually where the money is .

You sound like a good candidate for the ice road stiff but I don’t have any idea what it pays .
Yeah sure, then one day some fucktard in a shitbox driving through traffic like he’s in a nascar race trying to get home cuts in front of you and slams on the breaks causing you to jerk swerve into a bridge Pilar or another vehicle and a nice spark sets off you liquid flaming bomb out back BBQing your ass up black n crispy like (long run on sentence I know :flipoff2:)

I've taken a low boy into NYC when I was younger to move equipment, no thanks.

Back when I was still listening to a talk show in Denver used to piss me off that some big time ambulance chaser was bragging about the ammount of setlement he had gotten for those who died when a steering wheel holder plowed into a traffic jam on I 70. Damn easy lawsuite to win when there was all kind of video showing him out of control comeing down the mountain by passing the runaway truck ramps.
They used to be limited in their advertising, but sometime in the 70s at least in NM they were allowed to change, I remember some adult at the time telling me that was a mistake.

I'd love to, know anybody hiring? I didn't see much on indeed

I doubt many outfits advertise for that. Most places just hang a banner on the fence. Pick up the phone and start calling.

Ireland's website hasnt been updated in a couple years, but looks like as of 2022 guys were doing between 70-95k. Doubt they are doing the hours you are working now.
