Driving job advice/leads possibly??

You are taking home ~$150k a year at 100hr/week? I thought you are limited to X hrs a day of driving? How do you work 100hrs a week? Also why would you want to work so many hours.

The more I read about the hours you guys work I am happier and happier with my 40-45 a week I average lately.
I work 14 hour days, I'm not pushed too or anything I could 60ish of i wanted, it's a rotational job, I just don't take home time hardly ever, one reason I work so much is there's nothing to do out here but drink and gamble, I'm trying to avoid both, also I like working, never happy sitting around

I am a Telecommunications Field Engineer, for a company that contracts to the Government.
Not a trucker but I drive over 150k miles a year in my service truck to communication sites all over Northern California. Work from my home so clock starts when I leave my driveway until I return.

Best job I have ever had in my life, and I should be retired but the money is easy as is the job....
How did you land that? Do you have to have specific degree/training?

Pure Luck, answered a craigslist gigs ad :lmao:

Do you have to have specific degree/training?
College Degrees in Telecommunications technology and Computer technology back in the 80's and over 30 years experience in the trade at the time I got that job over 10 years ago. Yep I am a senior citizen now :lmao:

Edit: couple of pics from a job site

14 hr days, 7days a week- sounds insane to me. I work to have $ to do the stuff I want to do- ie SPEND $ ha ha. I have no problem working extra when needed, but just to work to work does not appeal to me.

The fuel delivery drivers usually make $100k before taxes and home every day .

Haz mat tanker is usually where the money is .

You sound like a good candidate for the ice road stiff but I don’t have any idea what it pays .

At your rate of an average of 100hrs/week taking home $150K a year- that all has to be just banked then right? Like retire stupid early? What is the end goal for that kinda grind?
Half my check goes into savings/retirement, I pissed alot away when I was younger I like to travel and have a good time, especially doing things I can't do when I'm old, my end game is a small house in the mountains somewhere, with a comfortable amount of just in case money and a job I actually like doing

A driving situation you might want to look into is driving seniors to medical appointments. A dude we use makes $350 for a 30 mile round that takes about 1.5 hr of time.

Our fuel delivery contractors keep saying they can't find people. It is a little bit variable on hours/days worked, but its still basically salary.

All of ours have names that are like 58 letters long.
They were looking for drivers last year, told them I would on my off time if I got paid the same.

Guess that was too much to ask for.

except Walmart has a history of looking out for Walmart and squishing the little guy on a whim
but if you drive for them, then you are walmart.

if you can manage to not be on your phone all day, that's about the hardest part. sure, they've got cameras that watch their drivers...tradeoffs all over the place.

but there might not be a more stable steering wheel holder job with as many benefits as walmart.

I've heard Walmart is a bid system, so you might have to eat shit for a while.

they get to be picky about who they hire, but once in it's reliable as all hell
They also nanny the shit out of the drivers.

Half a dozen cameras on the truck, tons of data-logging and analytics, etc, etc.

yup, if you get a roadside inspection and fail, you're fucked. walmart isn't looking to play around with any fines for anything.

for people that can't handle that, go ahead and change jobs every couple years chasing a decent route :flipoff2:

So do they care if I fire one off while I'm driving?
