DOM Prices

Hey there,

You're right, steel prices have been all over the place lately! It's a good idea to get a feel for the market before diving in. For 1.75" OD .120 wall DOM tubing, I haven't seen any recent posts about specific prices, but I can share what I've found from browsing online retailers and talking to some fellow off-road enthusiasts.

Here's a ballpark range I've seen for 1.75" OD .120 DOM tubing: $10 to $22 per linear foot...

Steel prices have stabilized after have going down over the last year. I retail 1.75x.120 for $5.50 per foot in Reno. It will depend on where you are but they are close to pre covid prices.

but only b/c I knew the guy at the counter and bought over a grand of tube to start.
That’s still stupid good pricing. 1.5x.120 was $4.70 and 1.75x.120 was 5.80 when I ordered $4k in tubing in Richmond Va.

Steel suppliers are where you buy steel not fab supply shops. I assume by online retailers you're on Barnes, ruffstuff, TMR etc? You're paying for the huge convenience factor buying from them.

No doubt. I can buy cromo tube from Summit Racing if I want to pay a premium well above what the steel supply places charge for the same stuff.

Going through this thread makes me sad. I remember when1.75/.120 hrew was like $1.50/ft and DOM was $2.50/ft 😔

HREW is back to close to that, .095 is $1.40 and .120 is somewhere around $1.70
DOM is what I’ll never see .095 under $2 again 😥

Man I hope. Need to place a big order for 2x.250" 4130N for links and a shit ton of 1.75x.120" 1020/1026 DOM and some 4x4x.120 structural.

I have a few friends that only buy qty of round tube and DOM from Scot and have had great success. I got a quote from them then took to my local IMS and they price matched it

Bringing this back from the dead. I know prices have come down and stabilized a bit, but I keep hearing china steel mills are being forced to shut down with no work. Any predictions on the price of tubing in the next year? I'm probably going to be building another chassis soon, should I invest in tubing now or wait 6 months? Will china issues cause a glut of steel on the market that drops prices, or will lack of china supply cause prices abroad to rise again? I recall we have tariffs in place on steel, although I don't know how that will all play into things.

In the same boat

Same here. Thinking of ordering in the next few months....definitely before year end. My guess is a steel price increase will come with the new year, but if we hit full blown recession after the election (as is likely)...the price could drop substantially....assuming we still have jobs to pay for it.

The DOM tube I get locally all says India on it. No ching chang China tubing to speak of.
We get a lot of India made DOM here too.... Just as another point of reference.

Anyone priced 4130N Chromoly lately in the heavy wall stuff (.250" typically) for links? Trying to get quotes locally....and am looking for a ballpark of what I can expect to pay.

Well, just looked at work and surprisingly couldn't find anything that didn't say USA on it. All 4130 and 1026 DOM. I do wonder if the DOM starts out as foreign tubing and then gets drawn in the states and stamped USA after that?

I'd prefer USA made, though I wonder if it's made to an ASTM spec if it's really that different.
