Two recent cigar stories:
1. One of my best friends gave me a cigar his rich (9/11 money :( ) neice gave him a while ago. He had it stashed in his nasty workbench drawer. He said it was a $100 cigar (yeah, right, I thought). Said "Don Zorro" (IIRC) on the band. Was in cellophane. Very large gauge for the length.
I smoked it and it might have been the best cigar I've ever had. Burnt perfectly evenly, would not go out, held the ash like Jill the Babysitter on being FLOTUS, never got bitter, smoooooth, what else can I say?
Asked my LCS about it. He had never heard of it and looked it up. Noncomitally said 'they exist, but he doesn't carry them'.
Ring a bell with anyone?
2. Few weeks ago I see a clear trash bag filled with Churchills each wrapped in newspaper on the counter of the same LCS. Shipment had just come in - they were something new. I asked him how much and he said 'tree fiddy' (NO LIE!!!). I said hundred? He said no, $3.50 each.
I bought one to smoke right there. It was terrific. I bought ten more to take to a wedding that waws coming up. Also bought a cigar box for .50 to put them in.
They were a hit at the wedding. Didn't tell anyone what they cost.
Next time I was at the LCS I bought a bunch more. He had increased the price to $3.95 a stick. He also had Churchills and some others, some Maduro, maybe four or five variants.
Each is wrapped in newspaper. Spanish newspaper. No name I can find. No boxes; sold loose.
LCS has them flying off the shelves. He's sold over 2,000 in a month.
Anyone got anything on what the heck they are?
