Chief buggy

tentatively yes...I havent mounted the steering stuff up. I am basing this off of the numbers provided by H.E.

That said, in the other buggy that my dad has a '05+ d60 in, with the 1550 shafts, it will turn close to 50*. I know in his buggy the links are where you drew and his tires definitely get into the links. plus depending on where i set my shocks, they may go there.
ok makes perfect since. and its a pain in the ass when they rub because until you weld the jam nuts they will loosen up...

You're definitely on the right track with bracket placement... I'm running a hair over stock steering on my 08 and have the links where chap drew them. With 40"s at full lock they just kiss the link... any more steering and i wouldn't even be able to utilize it. Hopefully you're far enough in to get 50° without touching the link too much...

i meant to ask but what did you use for an alignment bar when you cut SD axle?

but really i used a 3"OD .25 sleeve and that lined it up really well.

So a little bit of an update. I was so excited to make some progress over the thanksgiving break. I got all my link material, heims, bolts etc. long story short, I ordered the wrong heims(7/8-3/4) and the wrong misalignment spacers. Things wouldn’t match up, heims were bound etc.

Well in talking to H.E. I should have ordered 7/8-7/8 and a high misalignment spacer. So I ordered them from Barnes4wd. They were also awesome in refunding my heims that I had ordered before.

After getting all that figure out, it came together. I did have to move my front lower frame mount out 2” and rotated it down 10* so the bolt clears the frame rail. This is to accommodate the ‘05+ Dana 60 link spacing.

Full mechanical bump, shock won’t allow this most likely

I also got my fuel cell mount cut locally. Turned out ok for my first bent part drawn from scratch. It needed some tweaks but overall it is gtg.

This also has a little added flair with a modified Pontiac logo. The engine came from a Pontiac G6. My daughters nickname is also chief, and there’s the namesake all coming together.

So getting more done. I got the battery location figured out, the packout, and then large ammo can. The packout/cooler can move between rigs. It had bolts, tools, spare fuel pump, filter, rtv, tire plugs etc. the usual. The ammo can will stay on the rig and contains fluids, sept belt, u joints, etc. i have a pair of these on my other rig and they work really well. Water tight, keep stuff clean, and are cheap compared to an artec qt crate dealio.

Also in the picture the paint can is likely going to be my fuel pump location

I’m hoping with fuel, tools, fluids, etc this would really bring help the bias front to back

Glad you explained the paint can location. I was curious about it with the previous update but didn’t want to ask in case it just happened to be there.

So I had some time over the holidays to do exhaust. I had gotten flanges for the engine. I got a 1-5/8 header kit from speedway motors and collectors from hooker. Then evil energy v-band clamps(surprisingly nice). This is my first time doing headers. Overall I enjoyed the process. The side by the diff might get close, I’ll see when I get the driveshaft in

Still undecided on a muffler. Likely a straight thru glasspack type.

As I built my buggy, I tried to think of what was going to get in the way of the next thing, and try to work in that order. I had a piece of cardboard that I tried to keep a general order written down.

Im leaning a bit towards seats, if I custom order prp i have 4-6 week wait. But once they come in they will keep me busy with interior work, pedal mounts, etc.

Biggest issue is my budget cant keep with with my build speed.

can you borrow one seat from someone local? because pedals and steering and dash does take a minute to sort out.
great idea.....but my local guys are looking at this build like I'm the fancy one......no one else has a buggy, or PRP's etc.

I know PRP is pretty pimp. The Ace's racing is curious to get 2 seats for 1/2 the cost. I have run 4 runner seats for years in my truggy with no complaints. So still not sure if that's the best place to spend money.

The PRP seats I want are the GT/SE

If I were starting fresh, I would consider low back seats with a separate headrest. I am wearing a helmet most of the time now and find that my high back seat pushes my neck forward a little bit. A separate headrest allows it to be a little further back, giving more room. A lot of the dedicated rock crawling guys have gone this route for more comfort.

and i am on the other fence. i like the completel prp seat. but can see the draw to the low back too. each of us have our deal.

I have seen that trend as well. I will say, I have sat in prp premiers, and they were too small for my average build 6'2, 200#. The GT/SE was super comfortable, fit my body great, and the ability to pull the harnesses easily to remove the seats seems like a nice feature.

You need an extra tall seat

I thought this was a vision thing as well? The low backs make it easier to look over your shoulder to the rear to see that pass rear tire placement.

I wish Redart/Beard still made their narrow, low bolster 'street comp' seat. It was only 21" wide (which in a narrow buggy is nice) and sat a little more upright than a traditional suspension seat and didn't have high bolsters pushing your thighs together. I can't seem to find anything like that now except the PRP Roadster which is 19" but the frame doesn't fit my body at all.
