Carnage share thread

I have seen a lot of busted rigs trying to climb that waterfall on Copperhead. :cool2:

From the YJ in my avatar pic. 2.5/30RH/231/300 doubler tons and 42's

D300 was not hit, was not bound, and driveshaft did not bottom out. Gear failure inside caused case to split itself. Only thing holding it together was the 3/4" aluminum cover which as you can see was also bent. Was able to drive it back to camp and onto the trailer luckily.

I think having a rear plate/ brace across the back of the case helps big time. I also run the aluminum cover on mine.

Just did the same thing on copperhead at SMORR. Front end was up with most weight on the rear and wasn't even at the bump stage yet.

It is a LP 60 on 42 sticky treps tho

I have a customers LP D30 coming back for warranty that looks just like this. Lunchbox, 4.88s RCVs and 33s.

“It made noise just pulling it out of the garage.”

Yeah. Sure it did.
:shaking:

I mean it is a 30... but my CJ is still kicking the 30 with 456s, lunchbox, 35s, and a V8.

I expect it to go every time I'm out, but she's still kicking

When you are thousands into a D300 with a 4:1 lomax gear set that supposedly doesnt break, and 32 spline outputs, and then you crack the case do you just got further down the rabbit hole and get a billet aluminum case from TMI or Behemoth?

Hmmm...$1900 more to get a TMI case or $3800ish for a new Atlas Race Case? So, twice the price. Probably comes down to size, even more than price. If the car can't easily accommodate the bigger Atlas....that's probably the decision maker. Also probably depends on how much of a PITA it was to recover your broke rig last time the D300 let go (and what part actually failed; gear failure like pictured above means you need new internals too....and then, it wouldn't make sense to do another 300 with an upgraded case). The worse it was, the more likely you'll be inclined to avoid a D300 in the future.

see what you did there

Yes, intentionally, lol. Improved design, but similar packaging size, similar gearing options, and far, far stronger.

NP205 is another one, but the packaging differences don't make it a direct swap, not to mention gearing limitations. I kept blowing up D300s in my truck and went to a doubler+205 to get the gearing back with strength because I couldn't afford an atlas 4 speed.

So the one I posted pictures of was still stock gears, just 32 spline rear output. I had a spare case so I built a new one with 4:1, upgraded the front output and was able to reuse the same rear output. Twice now I've built 300's like this, with every upgrade other than the case itself, there wont be a 3rd time though. If Im ever in that position, I'd go straight to an Atlas.

I've seen them seize but never spit it's guts out. Is it possible a piece of trash made it's way up into the pump?
Dont know, it would be kinda hard to tell with everything all ready disassembled.

366K on it. He's pulling the one off his spare motor. He was leaving to take the family camping for the weekend. Died in the driveway, at least it died close to tools and parts. Camping trip will resume shortly.....

That's crazy. I'd want to find the smoking gun before I slapped another pump in there. That's totally not normal

I once pulled my rear 8" 3rd to rob the 5.29s for another diff. It hadn't made any noises I noticed and looked about like that. I can't see how it was so wasted without failing completely. I could see that diff blowing the next time I pulled out of the driveway.
