and? related to the thread how?

Is that the dude that used a cut up truck tire as armor to keep his guts from getting rototilled by rear claws?

Capstick maybe?

Friend of mine lives in Campo, east San Diego County. He does a lot of hiking in the hills and carries a Marlin .44 mag lever gun. He carries it because of all the illegals in the area. A few years ago he was stalked by a mountain lion. He saw it sneaking up on him. He yelled, fired a round in the air, and it kept coming so he shot it dead. It had a severe abscess in its jaw according to the BLM Ranger that investigated.

He also said he would never ever report a animal shooting again. He's retired law enforcement, said they treated him like a criminal until they found the abscess. That's why the ranchers say it's no big deal if you bury them and don't tell anyone.

The first few times I ever saw a mountain lion was riding up near Pine Valley, Ca. Back then it was considered cool rather than scary to see one. The first time I was stoked that I noticed it peering down from high up on a boulder above me. I pointed it out to my dad and uncle who I was riding with and It took off when it realized we saw it. My uncle was retired law enforcement as well and rode with a 9mm, also for illegals in the area, and didn't even think to pull his pistol.

Then one killed a female hiker cuyamaca a few years later and it suddenly became scary, not cool, to see them.

We used to go camping in the San Dieguito River Valley when we were kids. It runs through what is now all developed land east of Rancho Santa Fe, below Lake Hodges. We saw a resident mountain lion on a regular basis. He was always up on a boulder watching.

What does an abscess have to do with whether or not he's a criminal?

Oh, and that town of Campo is up for sale. 6.6 mil.
They basically didn't believe that he was being stalked and shot in self defense. When they found evidence the lion was sick and unable to hunt, they changed their minds. Get it??

I think I get it. An abscess causes a lion to not be able to get normal food and when that happens, they go after people and pets?

I remember that, it was all over the local news. Also lots of reports of cats stalking horseback riders in the area.

Of all the thread derailments on this site, posting that picture in a thread titled "california mountain lion attack on humans" gets people riled up
:flipoff2:

Crazy link to that-

So my uncle that I used to ride with was retired CHP, and one of the ladies he knew from work became good friends with my aunt and they used to hike all the time. So they were hiking upper middle peak in Cuyamaca(where not many hikers go because it requires extra climbing compared to lower middle peak) and they were the ones who found the lady who got killed. Turns out she was out trail running, knelt down to tie her shoe and the mountain lion decided to take her. It was a pretty gruesome scene and both of them stopped hiking for a while because of it, even after they caught and killed that mountain lion. When they started back up, my aunts friend was always armed, even on crowded trails.

Shortly after it happened, we did a big family trip down to Borrego Springs, and my mom was trying to convince my aunt to hike Palm Canyon with her. Things are going pretty well and it looks like she was going to finally get back out for the first time since they found they lady, and then they went into the visitor's center where there is a big ol display of stuffed wildlife in the area.. big horn sheep, road runner, rattle snake... and they dramatically put a stuffed mountain lion up on top of a big rock stalking the sheep. My aunt noped out right there and decided she was either going to be in the truck or in camp.

I remember going into that Visitor center and there was a lady who wanted to buy a book. She went up to the cashier and the cashier had a rosy boa draped over her neck. The lady with the book freaked out. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

It was neither California or a mountain lion. I say you should start a thread of old African safari pictures.

But is Africa closer to California than Florida to Alaska?

1. Buy Campo
2. Turn into cool rock crawl park/camping area/ohv
3.???
4.Profit!

Campo will have nothing to do with that shit. They (the 1,000 or so residents) are all pro-familia and want it to stay that way. They would welcome investments into infrastructure, schools, etc.

The town was for sale years ago at just over 2 million so, tripling the price isn't going to net them a sale regardless.

yeah, it was more of a joke. Never really spent much time in campo other than when my dad's pine valley softball team would play campo's softball team way back in the day.

I knew that...

It's been on the local news for a few days now, i've never been there

It seems sleepy, tired, lonely, smelling of blah energy...

I remember being stocked while quail hunting around 2000ish. Locked eyes with the Female Lion and let off some bird shot in the air. Didn't even flinch. My dad immediately came over and we both walk slowly over to a clearing. Let off another shotgun round and damn thing didn't budge. Followed us all the way to the truck over a mile away. Trailed us a couple hundred feet and stayed uphill. I thought it was cool at the time. My dad was a bit freaked out, we had a bad hunting experience just 2 weeks earlier involving a pig.

They are much bigger than people let on. Also it's weird to be hunted. Only time I have seen one in the wild. I have spotted them with headlights 2-3 times while living in Tehachapi driving to work at 4am in the morning. This was near the Pacific Crest Trail area so nothing fat to eat.
