California Mountain Lion Attack On Humans

Confused... This isn't the first time a mountain lion has killed someone in California. Very likely that it won't be the last time. My aunt and her friend were the first ones to find this lady back in '94: Mountain lion mauling death prompts warning to hikers

I've seen a mountain lion twice ever, and heard a female in heat once(one time too many if you're by yourself, that shit sounds scary). I send a lot of time by myself in mountain lion territory during prime mountain lion hunting hours. All you can do is make yourself look big(it's hypothesized the lady in the above article was killed because she bent down to tie her shoes) and hope they aren't looking to kill you, because the only time you're going to see one is if they don't care enough to let you see them.

I guess im in danger then.

We see a few a year up here, in town, on the hiway, in some of the seasonal vacation homes carports. Im fat and smart enough to not do much hiking but weve never seen one in the forests, were also pretty loud with guns/trucks/saws.

Found a dead one on the hiway last year and we skinned it, i cant imagine they'ed be "good" to eat. Aboslutely minimal fat and a highly defined muscle structure.

My brain is 40% memes. It's your fault.

I've seen 6, 4 in CA and 2 in OR. About 15 years ago I camped at Ellis the first weekend of April on a solo trail maintenance trip from Ellis to Little Sluice. I woke up in the morning to tracks circling my tent. I followed those tracks to around soup bowl before they veered off to the right into the woods. A hundred yards or so later I spotted the Mt lion a few yards away off trail sneaking downhill. It set up an ambush.

In Oregon working solo for the USFS at night with no gun, a dead flashlight and a 4 hour hike back to my truck I got to listen to the scream of a woman being murdered on the trail in front of me. I knew exactly what it was.

I've heard them chirp multiple times while solo in the woods but didn't know they made that sound. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

I had 10 acres south of Azle that I let the neighbors use. He had pics of a mountain lion/ cougar on the game cam. There are way more around than people think.

ive shot and ate 2 over the years. absolutley one of the better eating game animals out there. comparable to young pork or fatty chicken. shared it with lots of non game eaters and they could never tell the difference.

i would rank it in order of preference elk cougar cariboo then everything else.

favourite part was smoked cougar tail soup.
i seem to see at least one every year but also live on vancouver island which is the most densly cougar populated area in the world. i believe its 1 cat for every 2.5 square miles.

we are alowed 2 tags a year and i always cary one. its also the longest season of any game animal up here.

i think samquanch has also shot a couple up here over the years

Cat would be shitting you out by the time you even begin to unzip that fanny pack. Yeah, you're crazy, in a delusional way where you think that gun in a fanny pack would ever do you any good against any cat that wants a piece of you.
Must just be lucky then because I’ve come across them twice now on my property and saw them at about the same time they saw me and they were startled and ran off. Who knows how many I didn’t see though, but you can carry on with your arrogance. I’d expect that from you though. Perhaps they follow you due to your menses?

I found one stalking our camp at Gold Lake a few years ago. It’s eyes caught my headlamp, just across the trail from me (maybe 30’). I thought that it was my dog at first and yelled at it. It slowly walked from behind a stump and I instantly realized what it was. I watched it disappear into the woods above us. We kept the kids/ dogs close after that.

holy fuck

Good reason to carry a firearm in the woods. Still, it is extremely rare. Interestingly, the last fatal attack in Northern California, about 30 years ago, occured in Auburn State Park, not too far from Georgetown.
Was that the woman who was out jogging?

Well if the liberals in California really cared about the Lion they would leave and they are obviously conquerers, NJ would be a good place for them, sorry all Jersey residents. Once all the liberals leave, because morally and ethically, they should. Then the conservatives can establish a proper game management program on them and California will be a better place overall.
you running 4 president???:flipoff2:

In December 1994, a 56-year-old female was fatally attacked by a mountain lion in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park in San Diego County.
Been to that same area many times. There continue to be reports of sightings by people in that park since then.

There is a reason why humans exterminated animals that can and do eat humans. Our ancestors would be shaking their heads as to why we would reintroduce - at great cost - creatures with big teeth and claws that might eat us.

Kitty cat caught on the game cam that points to the east door.

Think this is the female that lives in the box Canyon on our north creek / property line. Seen her with babies before.

A runner was attacked in Horsetooth /Lory stated park about 5 years ago. A “teen” male that was in poor health. Guy was lucky to fight it off. Probably less than 5 miles as the crow flies from us. Several cats make the bigger canyon home.

Had a big male scavenging in our 40 yd dumpster when I was building my house. He was old and missing teeth. I let my friend know that runs dogs for the State. They tracked this one and put him down. A scavenging mountain lion is dangerous to humans. There was a ravine about a quarter mile from my house. There must have been 20+ skeletal remains of deer there. A cat hunted and ate there.
We were densely populates with cats. The guy with dogs was employed to track and photograph cats in a 10 square mile radius area near me. They found and treed 8 different cats over a month period.

I dunno. A little survival of the fittest might help us along. Keep folks on their toes.

Same with grizzly bears

I honestly doubt there's resident grizzlies in Colorado.

I don't know if it's true or not but I always heard that the area spanning from roughly Woodland Park in the south up to Estes Park in the north east of the divide and west of Golden had the densest population of mountain lions of anywhere they knew of.
