What's new

2” .156 wall Dom

I clocked it at REALLY FUCKING FAST

All the talk of making the ball fit the tube better etc. it does not matter. It will send balls out of sight.

I’m ordering a tank right now.:lmao:

What kind of valve are you using? Don't worry about a larger tank, a small tank with higher pressure will get it done with a handheld barrel. It takes a really long barrel to take advantage of a large tank because that ball is long gone before the volume of air is useful. A 20oz CO2 tank size accumulator with a 1" valve will boot a fucking a loooong way at 300 psi.

When I said tank I meant the tank and valve from the tire bead blaster, they come together.

Also ordering glow in the dark golf balls:homer:

Those are amazing handheld mortars for the money, huge volume right now! Dial in your barrel now and move up to higher pressure later. Like a fast burn rifle powder, it's finished in the first few milliseconds.

Need to doctor the end of the barrel for spin. Stick on sandpaper was instant failure. Maybe just drill and tap a hole for an adjustable snubber.

1-7/8" 16 gauge exhaust tubing fits a golf ball just a bit tighter than 2" .120 wall and is much lighter.

You can also get it in SS if you are feeling fancy.:lmao: it's kind of an odd size but you can get straight pieces in 60" lengths from Summit racing and Amazon.

Also the weld seam is super smooth on the piece I got.

What’s the id? Want me to turn the adapter?

Unrelated "tech." knowledge because science:
If you have silty soil instead of clay soil . . .
. . . and you shove your bead blaster into a gopher hole in a Carl Spackler moment . . .
. . . it will produce a roughly 8" deep, 16" wide crater where the gopher tunnel was . . .
. . . and throw ~20% of that soil at your face like an old-school Looney Tunes backfire :homer::laughing:

I'm considering threading in a reducer + 1.5" PVC or ABS barrel for a spud gun for now, then worry about fabricobbling a Titleist chucker.

That would be sweet, should I pick up an 1-1/2" X 3" pipe nipple and bring the barrel by your place (with your wrenches)? Send me a text and we'll work out a time.

I did not measure the ID but it should be right around 1.75

I’ll get a nipple and get it close and then yes bring the wrenches and bbl and we’ll make sure it fits.

Believe Chrono required metal.
Negative. They just need a solid object to pass through the two laser fields they create. If you know anyone who reloads ammo it would work with a golf ball just like it does a paintball.Take sure you don’t shoot the chronograph.

Buy it. Use it. Return it. Amazon $81 used probably from the last guy launching gold balls into the great beyond.

Amazon.com

Bass Pro might allow returns, or they might not.

Hmmm, this thread has inspired me to find a pipe that a tennis ball fits well.

This is what I run.

Figured out these have more PSI than my old ether-powered spud gun, going to pick up a length of 1-1/2" ABS & a slip x MIP adapter at Homeless Despot. Now I can chase the turkeys all the way up the hill from our back deck

Hairspray / ether powered guns make something like 20 PSI, which ABS is fine for. I'd say PVC is a minimum.

I finally got a chance to make a thing this past weekend thanks to surpip turning a thing.

I'd show a weld pic but had to chase off the pigeons that shit on it, even made a fancy rig to make it easy to turn and weld but in the end the grinder came out. :homer::lmao:

Hairspray / ether powered guns make something like 20 PSI,
50 PSI to possibly 90 PSI, depending on fuel and stoichiometry. We used starting fluid, and the occasional spot-on or slightly lean mix sounded like low-base 12ga

. . . which ABS is fine for.
Agreed :flipoff2::laughing:

I'd say PVC is a minimum.
Meh, personal preference. We did ABS & didn't die.
I hate how PVC fails in a brittle / catastrophic fashion.

An argument as old as spudguns. :flipoff2:

I used ABS too because of PVC's failure mode until I started to get into air power. Something about the letters and numbers printed on the tube indicating it was designed to hold at the pressures I was using it.

I used Starting fluid too, the atomization actually kind of sucks out of the can, we used to empty out a can into a little spritz bottle and got way more consistent shots.

After watching this thing yeet a golf ball out of sight I think steel is a good idea:lmao:

Even with fluorescent balls, out of sight is normally short of 350 yards or so for me. Depends on backdrop and condition.

Sorry to shit up your golf ball cannon thread with potato heresy

, but . . .

100 psi gets half a russet hauling ass :bounce2: - I'd say faster than the best ether-powered shot I remember. Took a few shots out back toward open area & it's loud-ish (like low-base 12 ga.), smacked the ground over 300' away 40' above me on a hill. After 4 shots, I gave it a rest before the neighbors thought I was blasting bird shot.

Couple oddball things I did:
  • 10-24 x 2-1/2" screw thru + nylock (just snug, not deforming barrel) to keep projectile or ramrod from going past end of barrel
  • Scrap of hydraulic hose slit lengthwise + spiral wrap saves handle paint + adds comfort

  • Hammered some concavity into the bottom of an old stainless bowl that fit tightly & RTV'd onto end of tank.
    • Saves paint + makes the chingus stand up straight while you're ramming a potato

Initially made a 44" barrel while in combustion-power mindset, cut down to 29" before shooting because instant full pressure & handier to wield.

I may test a longer barrel some time "because science" + costs <10 bucks & 15 minutes to try.

One last "mod": 30 year old mini Flowmaster stickers on valve block:laughing:

EDIT: forgot, I also ^ threw a 3/8-16 SS button head allen + 2 SS flat washers + nylock through the hole in the handle grip to close it off.

Pretty sure I'm done screwing with the potato version for now, just need to make a golf ball barrel, a tennis ball barrel, a gopher hole barrel, a cobweb barrel . . .

I need to do the tennis ball barrel. The m18 inflator took I think sub 2 min iirc to fill, 12 ah battery should give lots of fills if I’m stuck remote away from a truck.
