1962 Mercury ADHD build

Thanks man, was hoping to talk to you a bit longer today but busy with so many people around. you still got your parts truck ?
Kid was grumpy cause he wanted to go play

I sold the parts truck for what I paid for it last summer.

no update as been busy with life and this is still sitting on the trailer after the car show

but stupid question time as getting mixed info. im trying to talk myself into a big block swap for this even if wasn't my first choice. so if i want to put my 71 429 in and keep the t18 4speed how do i make that work. Need to find a t19 bellhousing so i can use the hydraulic slave and if so thats only miid 80s trucks? and what clutch, flywheel and starter set up would i need to make it all work ?

I don't recall seeing bbf t19 bellhousings in hydro flavor, but could be wrong.

Otherwise it should be as simple as flywheel/clutch/starter from whatever 80s bbf truck you choose.

I don't have any answers to the questions you have, but I'll say just do it...

pre 79 crank means internal balance

That being the case, all you need is a 351m/400 4 speed bellhousing. the T18 & Np435 use the same, both manual clutch
Flywheel you need a 360/390 FE flywheel & clutch. Get the diaphragm style

During assembly make sure flywheel clears top of bellhousing, I never had to, but ive heard of people having to grind very slightly

Not sure on the t19/hydraulic

ok i knew there was something to do with at FE flywheel but wasn't sure. so need LUK #07027 and LKF113. that's flywheel and clutch for mid 70s 390 truck.

buddy has a bbf T18 with a 205 that i can pick up cheap, would it be correct to say the sbf and bbf t18 with be the same length so i don't have to mess around with driveshafts then ?

wouldn't be to hard to build something like this so i can stay hydraulic slave

I BELIEVE the T18/T19 will be same length, or negligible difference. The BBF T18 bell will fit the T19 as well

Agreed on the hydro bracket

So, is this 429 stock?:stirthepot::flipoff2:
not totally stock but nothing to crazy. dove heads with 10.5 compression, good mid power band cam with torquer intake and some headers. converted over to serp set up as well. ran real well in the last truck and just been sitting in the buggy so will put it in the merc and build a 351 for the buggy thats more race then trail :dustin:

Hell yea, I had a stock 70 429 thunderjet with the 10.5:1 in a 79 f250, it pulled really nice for being what it was, worn out with stock manifolds

Wouldn't be bad to pick up a performer intake, it would add a large amount of hp & tq below 4-5k depending on your cam duration. The weiland stealth dual plane might as well be a single plane it gives up a ton below 3-4k also

not the crazy of a cam but worked well in the last rig with a C6 but feel like the motor will love the 4speed. should be a good balance for crawling yet have more then enough to rev and pull hard in the snow

I ran the 4x4 version (218/226) of that cam in a stock dove headed 460 with about 9.2:1 it ran really good

It would be best suited to a performer dual plane with spacer. Perf rpm or weiland will give up too much down low.

This would be good comparison so you can see, exact same cam you have, but a 460.

Also, he keeps calling this a "high compression" 460. Yes it would have been 10.5:1 from factory, but its been rebuilt with what appear to be 22cc dished builder pistons, you can clearly see in photos they arent original style with narrower dish. Would have been much closer to the factory rating with a ~point higher compression and the original ~11cc pistons.

This is what originals would have looked like

If I was spending your money, I think a 429/460 based 4.5" stroke and ported iron heads would be perfect for this truck. ~550 ci, 650+ tq.
:smokin:
as much as i would like that no way bank account will allow it so will drop the 429 in as it sits right now and will still over double my power of the 302. maybe give it a quick hone and new rings as had some blow by but will see how productive i feel when its time.

If you end up wanting an aluminum bell for a 460 with hydraulic clutch I have two of them. Postage from Ontario would be insane I'm sure

so i got an aluminum hydo bellhousing on its way and should see that this week. its not coming with the separator plate so i need to find one of those i guess, can i use one for a 351/400m or does it have to be 460? would one from a ZF 460 truck work ?

or just by this one ?

Did you get the clutch fork with the bell housing? I bought a T19 with an aluminum bell without the fork, it took me 6+ months to track it down.

of course not as i didnt even think about that or the separator plate so guess i need to keep hunting for more parts for this swap :shaking:

:homer:
ZF5 style looks close to the same, might be worth trying?

za110 vs. za126

The ZF one looks close but has a few more bends looking at the pics. looks like the t19 one is sold out a few places i could find a listing. LMC has one in stock for 84-96 7.5 but doesnt say 4 speed but im guessing it is as they also list one for a ZF. kinda sucks as after shipping, duty and exchange the $20 fork works out to $100 :shaking:

I was going to order some door seals from LMC but would of had to take out a second mortgage to afford the shipping/duty and exchange :shaking: so ended up with OBS ones from Rock Auto for a bit more but waaaaaay less shipping/duty. It's ridiculous.
