The birdcage holding the tapered pinion bearing in the pinion broke and allows the bearings to rub when coasting.
I know the “right” thing to do would be pull everything apart and set everything up again properly.
However, could a guy pull just the pinion out, put new bearings and races and a seal and slap it back in?
Should I try to match the inch pounds of rotation the old unit had? Set it to 15-25 in/pounds per new bearing spec?
The gears have a ton of miles so getting the pattern to line back up might be tricky.
