What's new

05 2500 SAS, The Red Rocket

Not too much to update but I managed to button up enough of the front end to pull the truck out of the garage and clean up a little. I’ve got the preload nuts cranked pretty far down on the coilovers to get the ride height I want. I assume a spring swap is in my future. Also picked up my new golfcart yesterday. 2021 Polaris General XP.

This isnt dead yet just delayed for my summer of golfcart riding. Me and some buddies have a Hatfield and McCoy trip planned for june 11th to run some trails. I did manage to get the garage cleaned up around the truck so that I can get some work done. I hope to get the bed off and sold when i get some days off.

I finally got a chance to wrench on the truck today. I sold the bed and the guy is picking it up tonight. I pulled the truck out of the garage and got to work. My little tractor has a big heart

Thanks man, its nothing too special but its going to be the nicest thing I've ever had to work in. its a 24x30x12. 16x10 door, 2x6 walls, matches the house. I would have liked to built bigger but I was already pushing the limits without major dirt work and a retaining wall. since this isn't my forever home I decided to settle with it. Ill be happy when the electrical is done and I can get to work inside it with the heat on lol.

Not at all lol. the shop and SXS have been taking most of the monies and time. I hope to get the shop insulated and powered this spring then ill move all my tools in. Then I should really start making progress on the truck

Checking in for my 6 month update so you fuckers know I'm alive. absolutely zero progress on the Chevy. however, the electricians are coming tomorrow to start wiring up the garage and the meter socket disconnect is getting installed Thursday. I've been dragging my feet on the truck to try and make sure the new shop is 100% ready to work in by the time it starts getting cold out. I still need to insulate, sheet and paint the walls, put the furnace in and then finally move my tools. I haven't done much of anything offroad this year other than go to KOH and Rush for the Ultra4 race. I do have a SXS trip planned for July with some friends. Once the shop gets done I expect to get quite a bit done on the truck over the winter.

I’m still thrashing on the garage. Haven’t touched the truck in months. Got the walls all insulated with R19 fiberglass batts, blew in about 15” of cellulose in the attic, sheeted the walls with 7/16 OSB, got the mini split up and running great. Working in there with the AC on is such a beautiful thing and definitely worth every penny of the $1700 I paid for the 36k BTU mini split. I pulled a late night painting last night trying to get the ceiling covered before the man lift gets picked up. I really underestimated how much paint I needed, that OSB really soaks it up and I had to do 3 coats in a lot of places to get the coverage I wanted. I’ll probably end up using 15 gallons @ $178 per bucket. I hope to have the shop totally ready before the cold weather hits.

Yeah I hope to find some motivation once I’m moved in. First order of business is to pull the eco box and try to stop the leak coming from between that and the transmission

More painting tonight. I’m almost done with my 3rd bucket and still have one more wall to cover. I never thought the OSB would take 3 heavy coats to cover.

Back to some tech…
Before I move the truck into the new shop I need to fix my transmission leak. Fluid is leaking out between the 4L80 and the eco box. I assume it’s some interference between the clocking holes and the gasket. Is there a way to seal up the back of the transmission so fluid doesn’t live there anymore? I think I remember reading a thread about it years ago where a guy added a freeze plug to the oil passage in the tail housing. I know I have seen people use a thin steel plate and 2 gaskets in there to fix my problem.

I think i read in Dmans build he used plates and gaskets to stop the leaks, or maybe you could drill and tap the passages for a pipe plug.

Yeah I remember seeing Dman get a plate cut to put in there. I might go that route. I’d rather just eliminate the problem all together. I’ll do some more digging at work tonight

Damn man... first world problems huh
You got me thinking about this already and I'm not even close to getting my shit bolted up permanent:laughing:

I looked at it and thought it would seal up. once i got it all together i came out in the garage and it was dripping fluid slowly.

Nice build:smokin:

BTW a guy in the wanted classifieds is looking for 60/14b lunchbox lockers if you still have yours
