So I started a thread on ford truck enthusiast back in march so I’ll fill in what I’ve done so far on here and keep it going.

So here it was right after I bought a Half million mile v10 not a bad truck for $700 drive it home with a bad trans and 8/10 cylinders missing. It sat for a while because of a kidney transplant but started tinkering. So the plan for this truck was to just have fun with ac and heat for snow wheeling here in Montana. I wanted to shorten it up add some flex and height bigger tires and make it work good enough to go play on some bigger rocks in Wyoming. Here is a early price list but has most of it.

I had to replace that bad trans first off so I decided to build a skid plate for it out of 2x2 thin wall and wrapped it in 1/4 plate. I also got a trans about 2 inches higher than factory with the new skid plate.

Also took the bed off and ended up breaking the right side back window doing stuff alone sometimes has its disadvantages. But I wanted to shorten the wheel base from 137 inches to something more manageable like 117 or 120 ish inches. Well I chose as short as possible.

It sat like this for a few days and every day I would look at it during work and think what am I doing? So I decided to run the leafs backwards to get a fantastic departure angle with a ord zero rate offset plate. I’m hoping with a beefy ass anti wrap bar that the springs will stay together and I will probably have to add another spring clamp in the new front side of the leaf pack.

Got the hanger mounted with 2 bolt on some “existing holes”, and started to think that looks good!

torched off the end of the frame and there was no going back.

So I got it sitting on its own weight own weight but the shackle angle was horrible and it squatted all the way down. So I cut them and got it back in the air so I can retry tomorrow morning. I didn’t even get a pic. But I’m going to tack it on 1 inch from the back of my rectangular tube and lower it down and see how it looks and flex it out with the fork lift. I’ll get pics and get them up tomorrow. If it’s all good I’ll need to shorten the drive shaft and make new spring perches on the axle. Should I cut the factory drive shave and weld it back up or should I make square driveshafts?

Well had a little problem this morning truck fell and ended up taking off part of my middle finger. But I got some pics of it sitting on its own weight.

So when I get back after getting the finger fixed. I’ll be a little more cautious.

So I’ve been doing some thinking while I couldn’t work on it and I’m going to cap off the end of the frame with some more 6x3 tube, cut off my current boxes and weld them flush with the end of the frame and work on the suspension from that point.

In the future maybe. Might 3 link the front first?

linking the rear is 1000% easier than the front. if you are going through all this work to move stuff around now, just bit the built and go all in.

your future self will thank your current self

I wish I could afford to change it over but I really want to take this thing out this year. I’ll be slow but it will be fun.

I've dreamed about a regular cab superduty but ended up with a chevy. good start so far. its going to be adorable at that wheelbase

use some jeep lift springs, rancho shocks and this kit

or...hear me out....save the $800, use leaf springs. cut up the bed to get it back on and spend that money on beer and go wheel :flipoff2:

wyoming and leaf springs will do solid for a long time

Do you even own a truck that runs?
