So I am planning out a light weight buggy . The plan is super duty 60’s, f/r steer, and 3.9 lz9, and black box/d300.

The major item up for debate is 904/30rh or 700r4. I have found both, both seem to have some quirks, but what am I missing that makes one the best for this application?

My idea is a sub 3500# 2 seat buggy

904 should be shorter than a 700r4 and probably less weight. I think you can even shorten the 904 further if your willing to get rid of the parking brake. I'm guessing you won't need OD, but I would think that would be the only advantage of the 700r4.

Anyone know if You can put a 2000 jeep wrangler 30rh behind a 3.9? I know you can with a 904, and supposedly the 30rh is just another name for the same thing...

Vote for the 904, keep it simple.

I have a 3.9/700r4. Mostly picked it because of local availability but the 3:1 first gear and OD is nice. I was able to run a little deeper axle gear and still have a decent enough road gear for longer trails. Not sure on weight difference or length but on my 112" wheelbase rig my rear shaft length isn't an issue.
