Damn, it's getting worse. 50k markup on a 79k truck ..... clown world

From my understanding is construction equipment is being sold considerably at above list price in kalifornia.

A quick look around and it might be the only new F250 sitting on the lot in western Montana ... You can get still get a Ram 2500 at sticker but there looks to be two on the lot to choose from

Ive been watching the TRX’s for sale locally. Over the past few months the markup went from 20k to 50k and just went up to 60k.

People are paying so why wouldn’t they.
Not only are they paying it, they will wait months for the privilege.

Yesterday is my one year anniversary. I now have a low mile one owner 2020 Ram 2500 with a 72 month loan :flipoff2:

I wonder how many of these folks will just be handing the keys to the bank like they did on their house back in '08/'09 when it's worth half what they paid for it just a year or two prior? If you're paying these prices you're insane.

Yep.

If someone doesn't like that price they are welcome to go find one cheaper. And if they can't find one they will probably go back to the original dealer but the truck is no longer available and they pay to custom order one.

Plus whatever you were upside down on your past 2 financed out the ass trucks too, right?

Financing a truck for longer than it'll run reliably....my goodness. :homer:

Gonna be good deals on trucks during the fall of Rome. Thats fer damn sure.

Yep. Insane, or on a deeper level desperate enough that logic and reason go out the window.

It's the American way to have the mindset of "I need a new [Widget] so I'm going to buy [Brand New Hot Widget That Everyone Else Wants No Matter What The Cost]". Ghetto Goblins with the newest $1400 I-fone is a perfect example of this, as is the $50k/yr tradesman buying an $80k+ truck.

Why don't they consider that the truck they have, thats only 4 to 5 years old and not even paid off yet, is a much wiser investment than some shoddy built, overly complex and way overpriced turd?

Is the urge to keep up with the Jones that powerful?

It’s absolutely stupid. A buddy of mine bought a pickup a few years back for 20k. He traded it in last month for 21k. He put 65k on it. How does this work?

Carmax offered me close to 5k more than I paid for my truck, trying to find a solid reliable older rig to replace it if I can.

It is. I've always been the guy who buys the well maintained low mileage 4-5 year old vehicle for less than half the original sticker price. That's just how I roll. I don't need the new car smell. I'm just fine with that 4-5 year old vehicle in good shape with 50k miles on it to save tens of thousands over the equivalent new vehicle.

If a kid is raised in a climate where material possessions are the indicator of success they will want those signs of success at whatever the cost.

How many guys have you known who got a new job and immediately bought a new pickup? Everyone around them congratulates them on their new status symbol commodity.

We're an odd group here as the thing that ties us all together is a love for taking random old truck parts and scabbing them together into something fun to use. Buying used is a benefit to us, as others said we can get something at a discount because it has a few scratches and some dog hair in the carpet.

I bet the golf cart utv forums are a ****show of "look at the new thing I just financed and traded in my 'old' thing that was 2 years old but not the coolest thing anymore so I couldn't keep it"...

The dealer that I ordered my new Ram from said that every truck they used to have on the lot, went for 5-10k over window sticker. Most of it was people on the phone offering more to have them hold the truck for them.

The deal I got when I ordered was splitting the difference between the dealer price and the window sticker price. Which was a little under 4k off the window sticker. This was Dec 28th for a 2022 model.

How do you get financing with something like that? No dealer is going to finance 50K mark up....

I guess I don't get it.

I watch people buy new vehicles ever 3 to 5 years and just think....they have no other possible way to grow their wealth? They'd rather throw money at depreciating assets every 3 to 5?

But then again, people are lazy as **** and have no desire to learn to work on these overly complex ****boxes. :homer:

That's what I was thinking. I bet a lot of it is made up in inflated trade-in value that they know they'll get back with inflated used prices and the rest is cash down. Like yeah, we'll give you $40k on paper for trade that's worth $30k book trade then you only need $10k down to do a "zero down" finance. You essentially just gave the dealership a damn good vehicle and $10k cash to still finance full sticker.

I got mine ordered for basically 5000 off msrp through a friend. I ordered it 12/20/21 he told me to figure around 5 months. I got an email stating its build date and vin. February 14 for the build date, my friend couldn't believe it. I have bought 3 new trucks in the past 5 years, I am money ahead more than if I had just run a beater. no tires or oil changes, nothing for 5 years and close to 50k, yes I got lucky. but I only use the big truck towing.

My BIL's requires that his vehicle is no older the four years. He works for EPA or some ****. I don't understand how your vehicle is related, but he has to show up in a vehicle no older than four years.
