If you are flying manually (small personal aircraft) it is usually a purple line and a given altitude. But that probably depends on the GPS you are using too.How does that work in the cockpit? Does the software plot the course, and give the pilot a big arrow to follow?

The horizontal green bar is for pitch (up, down) the vertical green bar is roll (left,right) now keep the little square where the 2 green bars intersect and you'll be flying an airliner....
