President-elect Donald Trump has tapped billionaire hedge fund manager and investor Scott Bessent to serve as Secretary of the Treasury, according to multiple reports.


Bessent is billed as a crypto-currency enthusiast and an advocate of deregulation. He will also be a key figure in using America's economic power to support its diplomatic priorities.

He has advocated for his version of Japan's "three arrows" plan as a focus for economic revitalization: 3% real growth, a deficit of 3% of GDP, and "3 million more oil barrels flowing a day from U.S. energy production."


Following the trend set in other announcements this week, Bessent has been a Trump loyalist since his first term despite being an Al Gore fundraiser in 2000 and one of George Soros's inner circle.

Bessent is a known quantity on Wall Street and has Trump's trust. Those qualities, in combination, promise a swift end to the stagflation of Bidenomics
 
Rubio as Secretary of State is fucking retarded. That guy has been on wrong side of damn near every issue since he's been in office, always in favor of more government on individual liberty issues, and never seen a war he didn't support.

Bizarre pick. It's a highly administrative type position. You need a highly competent manager in that role. And you pick Kristi Noem??? The Trump admin immigration policy is about to be the biggest hot button issue in politics and the media establishment will be attacking it relentlessly. How did Noem handle the one time she was in the media crosshairs when she was bragging about murdering dogs? Not well. This will be a disaster. She'll probably be one of the first that inevitably gets tossed under a bus tire by Trump.
 
What's left for the likes of Ramaswammey, Gabbard and Kash Patel? I heard Gabbards name for Sec Def possibly, Beck said she'd be good for director of veterans affairs as well. Thought Patel might get CIA but Ratcliffe just snagged that.

Not a fan at that pick even though I like the guy and he does do alot of work with the military I just don't think he knows enough to deal with the Bureaucracy. I think he might get bulldozed.

Noem doesn't make a lot of sense, but at the same time the Dept of Homeland Security is more bureaucracy and coordinating than anything else. Maybe direct experience doesn't really matter. It's an odd pick at face value, but she can't be worse than Mayorkas. Not upset about this one, but I don't get it either.

SecDef is also an odd choice, but maybe it's about appearing more hawkish than anything else. Projection of force even if we don't intend to get involved in more wars can be a good thing. Mattis seemed like a great pick last time, but he turned out to be a real piece of shit after Trump started getting us out of the Middle East. I don't know enough about this guy to have an opinion of him, see how it goes I guess. Again, beats the shit out of Lloyd Austin.

They might be a little over dramatic, but there's some truth to their complaints as well. Time will tell on these picks.

The other upside to this as well is Trump isn't afraid to fire people who don't work out. He got rid of almost all of his original cabinet picks.

Agreed. I can't really make sense of it, just trying to see some potential angles I might not normally consider with some of these. Could very well be they're just bad picks as well.
