What's new

When was your last vacation?

Once my 85 year old step mom kicks it, I'll get my inheritance that is plenty of money for the rest of my life. Right now at 57, I have probably 10 years of cash. I'm not counting on social security being around.

I'm not money hungry at all, I just need my money to out last my step mom. Anyone want take out a hit on her? :flipoff2:
Maaaaybeeee. Lol

Last vacay was our honeymoon to the Bahamas for a cruise last year. Probably 2 years before that was Cabo.

Couple things I dont understand. Why people love the fucking sun/heat. Its miserable. 2nd, how do people just lay around on the beach and "relax". What the fuck is "relax" and how do you do it?

I recall the most recent "relaxing" time for me was about 9 years ago when I went to vegas with my cousin, her husband, and a couple other friends. The Sunday we were flying out I literally felt the weight being pushed back onto my shoulders cause I have responsibilities at home. Certainly makes an impact.

Havent felt that since.
You need to reset. Fake it till you make it If you will. I had the same issues when I was an estimator. Leave for a week... come back to 2 weeks of work. I.e say fuck it. Leave the phone and computer at home and deal with the shit when you get home. Of course, if you own the business, well, you are fucked! Lol

Any chance you could put that cash into an investment and live off the revenue? That might extend those 10 years to 20 or 30, should be more than long enough to outlive the step mom... :grinpimp:

Used to make the FSJ meet in Ouray every July, but the last time I made it was in 2009. Bought a fishing license last year, but things didn't work out.

Vacation time seems to get spent on obligatory family visits, ranch projects (usually haying season) or similar. Not really a "travel somewhere and lay around" kinda guy. Never really had interest in something like touring Europe.

We go camping for a few days here and there.

My preferred vacation is to just stay home and disappear into my shop to putz around for a few days. Best thing for recharging batteries.

I’m not suggesting you piss your money away. As I said, a vacation doesn’t need to be extravagant. But finding time away from work and doing things with your family or friends or even by yourself is important.

I never expected a big inheritance. That’s a good thing because my dad lived to 95. Lol

Money doesn’t dictate taking a vacation or not. It just dictates the type of vacation.

Currently spending a week in Palm Springs. I have seen to many guys at work retire and die a year later. I'm using up all my vacation every year!

I've been reTIRED now for 4 1/2 years and still kicking. :flipoff2:

That's what I did, and my monthly income is almost as much as when I was working, and I don't have to touch the principal for another 15 years.

All my investments have sucked lately. Except for the house we own in the valley (paid off) and the property in Alpine (have a hefty mortgage). And I started way too late. I played for many years, taking long weekends, and weeks, wheeling in the tetanus shot. I was living in the now, and not thinking about the future. So here I am now living in the future.

Ive been hoarding cash for years. I like cash. It's tangible. it's real. I have access to it now.

I never worked a day in my life. Job was a fun and interesting blast! I was sent overseas countless times and would often take the wife. She was able to telecommute and I was usually sitting around waiting for another contractor to get his shit together.
Actual vacatons; usually visited my parents. Worked my ass off doing maintenance on their house.... :lmao::smokin::lmao:

Now retired in southern Utah.... Vacation is every day now. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

Everyone is different, I work so I can afford my hobbies. My hobbies being 4 wheeling and travel.
As soon as I get the time off and the money, I go somewhere.

Seen too many guys with the " I'll do everything when I retire" not be able to do it. What an incredible waste of a life.

I take 2-5 weeks every year whether I get paid for it or not. Sometimes its just camping, sometimes its a nice all inclusive or anything in between. No agendas, I do whatever I feel like.
I grew up going to San Felipe for a month every year, back when there was only one bar and it still had swinging doors like the wild west

Exactly what happened to my Dad. Lost my Mom within months after he retired.

Now he has done a few things, but he refuses to actually "vacation". He's either at work or on his boat or out shooting, but it's always the same old routine.

He could actually retire but he decided to fill the void in his life with work. :homer:

I'm going to take a month of paid vacation to work on my house.

I usually don't worry about getting paid on the shorter ones. Week here or there isn't going to kill me. So I try and take 2 months or more during the course of the year.

I have the ability to walk away from work and not give a single fuck. Doesn't matter what I'm doing, sitting on a beach watching tits walk by or staring at some trees in the mountains.

Relaxing is just doing absolutely nothing and feeling zero stress about anything. More people should try it. :flipoff2:

I don't get the heat either. I live in the desert so I generally try to avoid the heat if I can help it

Vegas does nothing good for me. I can't stand the place, even driving through I can smell the desperation and bad decisions being made.

The closest to that feeling I have can be had daily in the summer here. There is a bad ass spot on the Columbia that's in the shade till about 7. I'll take a tube with an anchor and sit about 10' off shore just kicking back rolling with the waves as boats go by. :smokin:

Yup, I stopped worrying about things that don't matter a few years ago. Life is good when you truly don't give a fuck about shit that doesn't matter. :grinpimp:

Pretty much the same here and wouldn't want it anyother way.

1 years ago.. last real vacation ..

Next Wednesday thru the 8th of July .. is my next vacation. Going camping if I can deal with out Bonnie and main thing work on Square body Suburban . Atleast at this point it's not on Jack stands and cribbing....

No vacay since March 2023. Usual early spring trip to Hilton Head could not happen this year. Days off here and there, though.

Wanna take a trip to Snowshoe this summer (not a whole week, but a long weekend?) for some DH poking. And plan to hopefully head to Bentonville, AR in the fall for a week of riding there.

Took a 12-day trip to Florida last spring... 2 days to Alabama, a day with my dad, then to Florida for a few days, another day to AL, and another with my dad, then a day up to TN and a couple days with my sister, then a long day back to MN.

Well, I did take a 6-month vacation of sorts in 21-22, complete with a 6-week nap in the early part of it, but I don't think that counts.:flipoff2:

I agree.

We go south for a break from winter in the Pennsylvania mountains. It will be zero degrees with no sun for weeks in February.

We fish and snorkel and kayak so not a lot of just sitting on a beach. I can’t sit still for long.

Last vacation was last summer, cruise trip for a friend’s wedding. We usually try and go once a year during the summer to the beach with wife’s brother and his family.

I’m terrible at vacation though we’ve always got projects going and so I’m always fielding calls from clients, employees and suppliers trying to make logistics work. So I’m on vacation but never at vacation, which kind of sucks but it is what it is.

Last true vacation was 15ish years ago before a wife and kids. Took a summer off and traveled the national parks, nothing to do but explore find food and try and get some tail.

There's like a disconnect from that emotion for me. I feel on fight mode all the time. When we went on the cruise we went to one of the disney beaches and the wife just loved basking in the sun like she's a flower using photosynthesis for energy and I was about done in 5 mins due to boredom.

Me either, have no desire to go back. I went cause my cousin bought my tickets and now I can say i've been there.

The first few KOH's were awesome because there was lots to do, lots of campfire beer drinking and NO cell phones.
