What's new

When was your last vacation?

Other than a few weekend trips, the wife and I haven't gone on a vacation with just the two of us in forever. We are trying to plan one within the next two years. She has limited vacation time and that usually gets burned up on stuff with the kids/family.

kinda retired ....everyday is a vacation...working a summer job now to pay for my vacation

I just got back from a 6 day beach trip last night. We typically go on 2 full week trips a year plus several long weekend trips each year. Usually 1 week at a lake house, and 1 week at a beach house. I've been with the same company 22 years, so I get a lot of vacation time, and they have a use it or lose it policy.

2 weeks ago. Spent a week fishing in the gulf. After 9 days on that boat, I was ready for a vacation from that.

Been doing the Florida Keys in fall/winter with the fam the last 5-6 years. I am hoping we can keep that up.

Never taken one as an adult. I hate traveling and generally just burn vacation time up around major holidays just to not lose it. Rather just be able to cash they days out but only ever worked one place that allowed that.

Place I'm at now let's me use it however so I just leave early when it's slow, take off days around big holidays, etc. Did just book a flight out to visit my dad for a week next month though.

Where do you go and stay in the keys? My wife has been talking about going there.

I’m a corporate slave. So all the time. I leave my house 6/28 and won’t be home 7/14. I’ll work on the road in Tahoe 7/1-7/3. I’m gone almost every weekend because I’m single with no kids or pets. Last weekend was my first weekend home in 6-8 weeks.

But I hear it’s super rewarding raising kids. That’s what all my friends tell me haha. I’ll keep the favorite uncle :flipoff2:

Probably 5 or 6 years for a real vacation.

Wife and I went to San Antonio for a few days in January. In laws kept the kids for that.

February. Every February we take my son out of school and bring his schoolwork with us. My wife wfh for an app developer and I let all my customers know so they schedule before or after our trip.
We go south for 2-3 weeks in a camper van. Key Largo, an island park near the space coast where you can fish and watch the Spaces launches, St Augustine and Black Mountain, NC on our way home.

Jamaica last February. First time ever doing that type of thing. It was awesome.

I have worked, I think 2 full weeks since March, every weekend has been a long one to travel for dirtbike racing.

If I draw any LEH tags, I'll take some time this fall too.

Seen too many guys with the " I'll do everything when I retire" not be able to do it. What an incredible waste of a life.

I take 2-5 weeks every year whether I get paid for it or not. Sometimes its just camping, sometimes its a nice all inclusive or anything in between. No agendas, I do whatever I feel like.
I grew up going to San Felipe for a month every year, back when there was only one bar and it still had swinging doors like the wild west

I haven't been able to relax just yet. No time for a mini vacation either. Some of my friends have today off, not me.

I think the last time I had a proper 2 weeks (Florida) was in 2009-

I just got back from a 2 week vacation this past Saturday. Disney world, Eastern PA, NY, Kentucky... 1/2 in disney, other half traveling to those states.

Prior to that we have only been doing little 3-4 day trips for the last 6 years (last big trip was in 2017). Last summer when we left Galveston after a 3 day trip I told my wife I am over having these short little long weekend vacations. We planned for over a year on this one.

Next year we are either going back to disney world or we are going to the Rocky mountains doing a sxs trip for 7 days.

I did the same. Was at Surf City/North Topsail. Wednesday - Sunday with GF and friends.

After 2 days on the beach I was over it and searching for junkyards in the area to go see what they had for older Fords.... then I realized I didn't bring any tools.

Not much of a 'vacationer'. That said, I LOVED liberty ports when I was in the Navy... work to the port, then spend 3 days balls to the wall partying, then back on the ship headed to the next liberty port. LBFMs for the win!

I mean like a REAL vacation. My wife brought up that I havent taken a real vacation since I went to Colorado for 9 days to go trout fishing. 10 years ago today.

I own a busy pool repair business. I'm apparently a workaholic. Ive taken long weekends since then, but always end up working at some point.

I gotta knock this shit off and just get away. :shaking:
August 2019 for 3 weeks. Visited my mom in Wisconsin. The rest have been a day trip or a weekend.

We do a week long trip every year with our riding group. This year was Moab, last year was Taylor Park CO area, '22 was Royal Blue in TN, '21 was week in Moab and a week in Black Hills SD.

have a week planned for Windrock in Oct.

Out-of-state family vacation- 2018. We've done a few long weekends at the family cottage up north. I travel often and fit in side trips when possible. Wife usually visits friends out west for a week during summer. Our 12yo Newfie has been our anchor of sorts. She can't have vaccinations due to her compromised immune system, so no boarding. Hip dysplasia and arthritis require helping her get up on slippery surfaces and when she falls. Our parents are unable to help out. Other trusted family and friends don't have ramps/etc to let her in/out. A dog sitter in our house isn't happening. After she passes (dog, not wife) we'll go to Europe for a couple weeks.

I work half the year. I have 29 weeks off to do whatever we like:flipoff2: Went wheeling in Hot Springs last off week.

The last real vacation? March 2020 in Costa Rica. Waiting to hear if they where gonna close down the airport was not fun. I don't think I decompress at all unless its a 2 week vacation. I normally take off from Dec. 15 to Jan. 2 just to wrap up stuff and decompress.
I was gonna drive the jeep down and camp all the islands in the OBX this year, but a court date popped up in the middle of that week, so that trip is postponed for now. I want to go to Europe next year, but that is depending on funds. The House renovations come first this winter.

If you are money hungry, ask yourself why? If you can’t enjoy it, why have it.
Once my 85 year old step mom kicks it, I'll get my inheritance that is plenty of money for the rest of my life. Right now at 57, I have probably 10 years of cash. I'm not counting on social security being around.

I'm not money hungry at all, I just need my money to out last my step mom. Anyone want take out a hit on her? :flipoff2:

Last vacay was our honeymoon to the Bahamas for a cruise last year. Probably 2 years before that was Cabo.

Couple things I dont understand. Why people love the fucking sun/heat. Its miserable. 2nd, how do people just lay around on the beach and "relax". What the fuck is "relax" and how do you do it?

I recall the most recent "relaxing" time for me was about 9 years ago when I went to vegas with my cousin, her husband, and a couple other friends. The Sunday we were flying out I literally felt the weight being pushed back onto my shoulders cause I have responsibilities at home. Certainly makes an impact.

Havent felt that since.

Currently spending a week in Palm Springs. I have seen to many guys at work retire and die a year later. I'm using up all my vacation every year!

Been 2 years since taking a real vacation but we took some small trips/trips to see family in that time. I'm saving vacation days this year for when the baby is born. Hope to be back to taking a yearly 1 week vacation trip next year.
