What's new

When was your last vacation?

7 years ago, me and wife got in my truck and just went for a drive. Drove backroads to Blackwater Virginia seen my grandfathers birthplace. Drove some of the Blue ridge parkway, hit MT Mitchel, stayed in Virginia, drove through West Virginia and headed home. Didnt hit 4 lanes until we got on the eastern KY parkway. 1350 miles in 3 days. And I loved it

Not a vacation guy. Last one that I actually took work days off was 2018. We went to Mexico for a buddies wedding. Since then just some long weekends once or twice a year.

We have our lake cabin now so we spend every summer weekend out there playing on the lake. Still get to work a bit sat morning because it’s only 10 mins away from home :homer:

Just got back from 13 days in UT/NV last week. Also done a few 3 day weekends so far, and a 7 day tahoe/NV desert trip in March. Usually we do a 2-3 week camping trip but this year the 13 day one will have to scratch that itch, the house rebuild is being a huge PITA. Our current tent was new june 2023, and we have slept in it at least 50 nights since then. Not interested in resorts, cruises, inclusive anything.

All my investments have sucked lately. Except for the house we own in the valley (paid off) and the property in Alpine (have a hefty mortgage). And I started way too late. I played for many years, taking long weekends, and weeks, wheeling in the tetanus shot. I was living in the now, and not thinking about the future. So here I am now living in the future.

Ive been hoarding cash for years. I like cash. It's tangible. it's real. I have access to it now.

I'm almost there with you. I didn't start saving for retirement til my mid to late 30s. It sure sucked watching my investments get destroyed in 2020 but here we are 4 years later I've more than recovered.

If you have some money that you can put into an investment account for a while and just see what it does I think you'd be surprised how much money it makes you over time. Investing in the S&P 500 is probably the safest route you can go while still getting a solid return.

To answer your first question, I went to Moab for a week in April, will be going to Arkansas for over a week in July, then another weeks vacation somewhere later in the year.

I'd imagine going to your property in Alpine is like a vacation everytime though. I'm jealous, that's a cool area :smokin:

Despite working 12+ hours a day up here, it is a bit like a vacation. I'm definitely not complaining.
