What's your favorite drinking whiskey? Not shooter or mixer

Russel Reserve 10 year is fantastic. Drinking it neat, and saving for Friday/Saturday nights.

Getting a collection going, but Woodford is my go to each night.

My current favorite for sipping is Ben Holladay (a Missouri distillery) Bottled in Bond, Soft Red Wheat.

I've shared it with several other guys who love bourbon and so far, everybody has wanted a second glass. It's got a nice cherry nose to it and the higher proof keeps the flavor coming.

Too bad shipping bourbon is illegal?

This was the only bottle the state store had. I need to find a new place to browse/buy.
How much are you paying for it? I’m used to paying just over $30, and was trying to find it at Safeway the other day and didn’t see it. The girl stocking the shelves asked what I was looking for. It’s behind the glass locker now. She asked how many I wanted and said just one. As she was handing it to me, I saw the price was $60! I said NOPE!

Going to swing by Costco and Total Wine this morning to see if it’s priced where it should be.

Basil is only like $38 here. It’s not worth $60 IMO.

2 years on, many different whisky's later and it's still my go to drinking whisky....

Calumet 8 and Willett are my 2 current favorites. Usually neat in a Glencairn. Just went out to restock. $50 each.

For anyone recommending Buffalo Trace or Makers, try Benchmark 8. it's made by the same distiller and is 1/3 the price. It is my go to for an everyday drink on ice. If i'm after something a little nicer, i've enjoyed 4 Roses single barrel.
Well, the Benchmark products are made at Buffalo Trace.

Maker's Mark is owned by Beam Suntory, the nice folks who own Jim Beam, Old Granddad, Old Crow, Basil Hayden, Booker's, Knob Creek, etc.

You are correct. I had makers confused. Although i'll stand my picking Benchmark over Makers.

Side note, I tried a bottle of Weller after hearing good things, I didn't dislike it, but I sure don't see any reason to drink it over Benchmark. I don't see every picking them apart in a blind taste test.

Your message made me look up all the brands under Buffalo Trace. I don't think I knew Eagle Rare was one of their brands. :smokin:

BevMo used to be good on price, but about 6 months ago it seems like they raised all their prices by 25%. I usually just to to the big grocery store and get what is on sale.

Total Wine is usually way better. A 1.75 of Knob Creek is around $45-$47 at both Costco and Total Wine. It's around $70 at BevMo. They normally will price match on things, but they said they couldn't on that because it was way below their cost. I think they said they could go down to around $55.

I don't understand why the Basil Hayden is $31 at Total Wine, but the 1.75 is $87.
