What to do with the homeless

Just saw this thread, interesting replies for sure lol and as someone who is currently homeless, I’m sure glad some of yall aren’t in charge :flipoff2: but I’m definitely in the minority as far as homeless homies go.

Staying at the local rescue mission has been an interesting experience, I’m very thankful that the option is there to not have to sleep in my 4Runner right now cause its damn cold.

Definitely agree homelessness needs much less government intervention, with an exception that companies like Blackrock shouldn’t be able to fuck the real estate market by buying up inventory…

Flame away, I could use the heat :flipoff2:

It takes some courage to post up your situation. Since you have already have stepped up, maybe you could explain how you ended up sleeping in your rig, if thats not too personal. It would be a breath of fresh air to hear another voice and one that isn't all reactive and venomous. I am listening. Idaho, Boise especially is booming for employment by spring . . . . .

why are you in Boise and not in Portland right now? weather'd be way better and there's more resources :smokin:

have a sign that says "need fuel to relocate to portland" and somebody should buy you enough fuel to get out of ID and head there :flipoff2:
Lol, cause I have ambitions to not stay homeless!

Though with that said, I wouldn’t stick around if my kids weren’t here. I’d take my cold ass right on back to NorCal where all my family, friends and wheelin spots are :flipoff2: but my ex has no intentions of moving elsewhere anytime soon, so here I stay
Wooosh! Right over my head lol, whats Colter?

Everybody is hiring, the problem with most of these “homeless” people is they are UNEMPLOYABLE, usually because of a drug problem and lack of skills that an employer wants.
I don’t give any money to any panhandlers, doing so just postpones the inevitable.

A brief period of the Irate board history where a wild ass sometimes homeless dude told stories and then deleted them. He sounded like a guy you'd want to have a beer with at someone else's house.

Back in the days of "The Rape Shack" and TJChief. :flipoff2:

Agreed!

Everybody's hiring and thats an easy thing to point out. But I doubt anybody that says that would hire a guy that just crawled up out of a ditch. I know I wouldnt

Yeah no problem,
Ex divorced me beginning of summer, that kicked off round 1 of homelessness but weather was good and it only lasted about a week. My company leased a house thinking that some of the employees would do a back and forth deal to save on hotels and boss offered me a room to rent there so I did.

Round 2 started mid dec. My employer never cared about weed and knew I used it, but came by the company house one day during work and supposedly smelt weed. Wanted me to go take a drug test and I just told him to save his money as I would pop hot. For the record I didn’t smoke there, but his daughter who works for the company (and also smokes weed) and lives there does burn a shitload of incense so idk, he said himself that he doesn’t know shit about marijuana…but anyway, I got canned and evicted. He did offer to hire me back “if I got clean and off that dope”. Went back home over the holidays where I could couch surf with family and friends, tested myself till it was out of my system and came back to Idaho.

Should be starting back with them next monday, but nobody wants to rent a room to someone who is unemployed (not that I blame them) so slept in the rig till it started dropping into the teens at night and now at a shelter till I can find somewhere permanent that’s cool with me having my kids around.

Edit: made decent money at my last job and did enjoy working there, hell I relocated with them. Definitely coulda found work elsewhere but also don’t want to start back sub $20/hr if I can avoid it!

So yeah, thats my situation. Life knocks you down sometimes but you gotta get back up 🤘🏼

Temporary homeless like you've got is fairly common and self solving. You count for the government stats, but sadly there isn't a big government solution to give you what you need, unless you are looking to be more dependent on the state.

I hope your way forward continues to work out for ya:beer:

Dam homie. Way to keep at it. I’ve been homeless, but never been useless. Sounds like a few pay checks and you’ll be back on your feet. My problem was opiates and a few relapses.

Yeah I try to do all things I can to avoid the govt these days, not deal with them more!

Thanks man

Thanks, that’s the goal 🤙🏻
Glad you’ve been able to get past that, opiates are no joke I’ve known many people that they ruined.

Wasn’t that the guy that built a “camper” made out of OSB and roofing shingles With a wood burning stove?
You mean that big bearded guy from the og American top gear? :flipoff2:

Absolutely. The .gov is no different (and likely worse) than poorly run non-profits where large % of money is skimmed by well paid executives. They make sure there are layers of BS and rules for maximum extraction, and then some high show, no go plan gets put in place.
They dump an insane amount of money into the east side of Vancouver BC, it’s a whole industry of people living off of “helping” the homeless. Barely anything actually gets done

That was the guy in Wisconsin (ish?) on the old board who's wife's family ran fancy dogs and horses and built something like that.
He later built a crew cab F800 to tow a big gooseneck with the dogs and a Gator in it.
Backwoods on the other site perhaps?

Pick them up in busses each day, clean up trash along highways all day, pay them cash, drop off at the end of the day. Pay a bonus per bag pf yeah collected.

They already have the community service people doin that. pick up trash, mow/trim all the crap they have planted around the sidewalks etc etc.

You are the perfect example of who Is not the problem. The kind of person who will be back on their feet, and not squirting diarrhea onto the wall of an elementary school. Best of luck to you.

The hobo rape shack was a small, maybe 10' trailer camper that the guy added a bunch of insulation to, in order to tow it up to ND to chase the work up there while the rest of the economy was in the shitter. Stjames13, or something like that.

The one with shingles was a slide in, by someone named "backroads" IIRC

On the P revious version of Irate maybe?

That's it, Backwoods was the guy from the other site. I could have sworn it was a truck camper though, had roofing shingles and wood burning stove in it. If I remember correctly that was the origin of the term hobo rape shack:confused:

I remember that he brought his 2 dawgs with him, they stayed inside for long stretches on a daily basis-

Thomas Sowell explains it perfectly.

Also this.

JK13 Sorry about your hard luck.

You are not the problem that needs to be solved. Your situation is temporary and always was going to be. Appreciate your perspective.

Hey that’s life sometimes, I appreciate it!

I often joke that some of the best things I learned in the Army was how to deal with the suck lol

Not saying at all that the homeless don’t create many issues, but thought I’d just throw out my situation as a counter to some of the all encompassing type statements
