What kind of 4 wheeler for yard work?

So much easier to regrade 3 acres with a 250' elevation change than to just buy 4wd :laughing:
I've just got a couple hills, maybe 25ac of trees, and a few feet of snow

either way, OP's talking turf tires so I doubt there's much need for traction

F1145 john deere. 72 inch cut, 3 cylinder yanmar diesel engine, 4wd with diff lock. Its rear steer so cutting around stuff is easy and with a hitch on the back trailers are easy to maneuver. It will skid decent size logs.:smokin:

We have a 2008 Yamaha Big Bear that I love. I wish it was fuel injected. But as it sits, the only electronics on the thing are to select 4wd and to lock the front diff. Backup recoil starter, very low first gear. Works well for us. I use it to aerate the yard, and don’t feel like I tear up the grass too bad. 400cc. Mine is a little heavy because of the winch and the IRS. But it’s handy to have around—occasional yard work and for riding. It’s seriously capable in rough terrain. And you really don’t want full-time 4wd, in my opinion.

Five pages and nobody has mentioned one of these??? Buncha fags...

After you tear the shit out of the lawn with this machine, there will be no yard work to do so you will now have a bunch of free time to ride your newly acquired "yard maintenance vehicle" :smokin:

I've got a 14%+ grade up my driveway for a few hundred ft. I made the entrance from the road like a highway on/off ramp. I can hit it at 40mph with an unloaded 2wd straight truck when it snows.

Find me one of those for $2500 and I would be all over it.

I just bought a Grizzly 600 from a buddy. So far it's working out great other than the bullshit little stuff from sitting for a couple years. Honestly not sure how I went so long without it. I have 20 acres plus another 60 up the road a few miles and I've been using it almost daily. Probably going to drag it up to my buddies ranch next weekend for some deer and yote hunting

Another vote for a Grizzly. I have an 09 550 that I got cheap 5 or so years ago. Works great for a plow, dragging trailers and log splitters around my poperty. In my ownership, i've replaced a rear axle, brake pads, and tires (with cheap craigslist wheels since the PO put garbage wheels/tires prior to selling). The diff lock has been it's biggest benefit when dragging trees out of the woods. Also has a 2" receiver bolted on that has been used almost every time the quad moves. Plenty of power for what I use it for, never wished I'd went with a 700. Next one (if that ever happens) will likely be a SxS with a dump bed though.

Local crackheads run around on late 90's polaris trail blazers running them on pretty much anything that burns..... Each time I pass them on a dirt road 2 things pop into my head, how do those still run and how is that couple not in jail... Notoriously known for cooking drugs in their trailer house... yet cops wont monkey with them... :mad3:

Honestly, I vote honda rancher ES 350 or 420. Most reliable/ durable atv on the market IMO! Very stout 1st gear, good clutch and with a set of turf tires you wouldn't hurt your yard too much! Only draw back on them is the crappy drum brakes, but other than that they are a great machine!

I still contend that a 25HP tractor will be far more useful than a quad.

PTO.
You want to run a sprayer?
PTO driven pump and a carryall on the back with a 50 gallon tank.
You want to power a generator?
PTO.
You want to run a cultivator?
PTO.
You want a front end loader?
PTO driven hydraulic pump and a front end loader.
brush hog?
PTO.

buy an old tractor.

Even though I do agree, finding a running, operable tractor for the cost of a used four wheeler is a far reach. :homer:

Up your price a bit and find a kubota RTV. We love ours on our farm. Dump bed, aux hydraulics, 12V system, dif lock/open rear to keep from tearing up the grass.

FIL has one. I checked around for us, but they're in the ~$12,000 range. Neat little rig. Its a little large to navigate our forest, but it works for him.

Checked a few dealers to see if any had a Honda recon in stock. The closest one is 5.5hrs away in Baltimore. The dealers have little to nothing in stock, I'd of bought one yesterday if someone had it.

Don't get me wrong I have a tractor and no quad and for the loader, brush hog type work yeah a quad ain't going to do it, but if he needed to do those things I bet he would be asking about a tractor not a quad. For sprayer and generator work why would you want to have to pay 1-3 times as much for the attachment by itself versus a stand alone, which can be used without having to drag the whole tractor around with you?

I can show you multiple running ford 9ns for less than two grand here.

Even an old small tractor will do more pulling and pishing than a quad.

plenty of them for under $2k around here
2wd, narrow front, armstrong steering ones though Probably need tires soon too

As mentioned, if you need a tractor, you'd be looking for a tractor. I think we all know the advantages and disadvantages of a tractor vs a quad.

Like I mentioned, a 2wd tractor is almost useless where I live. I brought my FIL's 4600 Ford home to weld some cracks in the bucket. It wouldn't back up the flattish part of the driveway. I was able to get it turned around and more weight on the drives. But then coming back down, the back tires would start to slide, which is great when your brakes are back only  obviously this got worse with any weight in the bucket. I'm sure some weight in the rear would help, but I still wouldn't ever consider buying a 2wd tractor.

A quad would be super handy, plus I could also cruise up to the neighbors, check the mail, chase deer, hit the swimming holes, ect. Not saying a tractor wouldn't be better for some, but a cheap quad is useful for anyone.

Anyone: Hey IBB, whats a good quad for doing random small tasks around the property?

IBB: Backhoe or 2wd ranger, only a faggot rides a 4wheeler

'Hey pbb I'm going to throw money away on a market that's currently way high'
"OP, you're gonna make an expensive mistake, here's some options that you may have not considered and/or what works better in our situations"
'hey pbb I'm still gonna throw away money, besides my dad says he wants to see me in a brand new 2016 blahblahblah'
"Well now's the part where we laugh at you"
'hey pbb I'm leaving forever now'

How it always seems to go

yeah no shit fuck a tractor for running around the yard
the cheap ones don't got much of a road gear and you wouldn't want to use it because no suspension
thus my rec of little pickup

a quad is useful.

but for yard work a tractor is more useful.

if the plan is to move snow and logs and pull heavy shit.

Huh. Yea, not in these parts. I found a 1932 with just a motor and tires for $1000.

To add, yea anything newer than 1950 is catching $5000+.
