The World Health Organization has warned leaders against relying on COVID-19 lockdowns to tackle outbreaks — after previously saying countries should be careful how quickly they reopen.

WHO envoy Dr. David Nabarro said such restrictive measures should only be treated as a last resort, the British magazine the Spectator reported in a video interview.

“We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus,” Nabarro said.

“The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”

Nabarro said tight restrictions cause significant harm, particularly on the global economy.

“Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never, ever belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer,” he said.

He added that lockdowns have severely impacted countries that rely on tourism.

“Just look at what’s happened to the tourism industry in the Caribbean, for example, or in the Pacific because people aren’t taking their holidays,” Nabarro told the outlet.

“Look what’s happened to smallholder farmers all over the world. Look what’s happening to poverty levels. It seems that we may well have a doubling of world poverty by next year. We may well have at least a doubling of child malnutrition.”

The UN agency previously warned countries against lifting lockdowns too soon during the first wave of the virus.

“The last thing any country needs is to open schools and businesses, only to be forced to close them again because of a resurgence,” said Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

But Tedros had urged countries to bolster other measures, including widespread testing and contact tracing, so they could safely reopen and avoid future lockdowns.

“We need to reach a sustainable situation where we have adequate control of this virus without shutting down our lives entirely, or lurching from lockdown to lockdown — which has a hugely detrimental impact on societies,” he said.

WTF After telling everybody to stay home for what 7+ months shut down our economy now they say oops it was a mistake

WHO has long held that sanitation, physical distance and isolation of sick people are THE only (maybe stretch to most) effective and realistic mitigation measures.

anti-mask, anti-travel bans, anti-lockdowns

This has been about the election since day 1. Anyone with a brain could see this clear as day after the first 2 weeks of “flatten the curve”.

I can’t imagine being a believer of this, or the mask joke. Both go against all common sense and you’re dumb enough to believe it :lmao::lmao:

The mask BS is purely political. Both Fauci and the WHO initially said masks weren't necessary but they were made to recant under the guise of having "learned more" about the virus . :shaking:

so every European country was in on it because of our elections?

No doubt if not for people being constantly reminded we are suffering a “pandemic” by the visual of wearing a mask, people would probably forget there was even a china plague happening.

and they discarded 100+ years of "general public masking mandates are ineffective" research and case studies. Certainly, in 10 years when this can be studied subjectively, the same result will be reached. In states that we've had mask mandates, and in states where the virus hit hard before and after the mandates, there will be little discernible impact that can be solidly attributed to mask mandates.

the fucking suicide increase however.....

didn't they start lockdowns well before the US did?

Sure did.

Where did they get there information on this “deadly virus” and how it’s “super contagious” and going to kill everyone?

If you truly believe that leaders of certain other countries wouldn’t aid in damaging trump, you are ignorant.

looks like germany went on lockdown 13 March

CA went on statewide lockdown 19 March

San Fran went on lockdown 17 March

“It’s unprecedented in modern times to have this level of quarantine-like measures,” said Jeffrey Schlegelmilch, deputy director of the National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University in New York City.

so i'm not sure what one would consider "well before" the US, but i'd consider within a few days close enough to be about the same

i strongly believe that what they did was take note of the US travel ban, then the US getting rebuffed by China for early intervention, then jumped full foot into the "one upmanship" that politics is known for.

again, china travel ban was in January

Yup. It was the individual countries, states and cities that went full retard for various reasons. Mostly to transfer/avoid accountability.

It will be interesting to see as the cold states go back inside to see what happens case wise.

said it for months... we're in the middle of the largest social experiment in 80 years.

I'd argue that Covid wasn't explicitly planned... but the response to Covid was probably premeditated.
I agree on that as well. So far we learned humans will create a new religion and get really violent if you separate everyone, take away hope for the future and tell them they are going to die daily. I used to wonder how religion was formed, now I know how and why.

control.....religion is control.

This one may not have been planned but the next one will be planned much better

My area is still in full retard mode. I don’t know what happened. For awhile, it was 70% didn’t wear masks, now it’s like .5% are not wearing masks. Oh and the capacity limits are absolutely stupid. Wolf will go down as the worst governor Pennsylvania has ever had.

They just nailed me in HF. The manager came up to me and said they require everyone to wear a mask and had a box of masks. I put it on, because I really needed something, but it’s getting really old.
