What's new

Vt, nh, folks

wet as shit in CT and some branches/trees down in the area, but nothing major for me

I did get the enjoyment of seeing a Semi on the way into work jammed into a tree that was leaning over into the road. Apparently he didn't see it. Looked wedged pretty well between the cab and trailer :homer:

Half of Maine is without power, crews couldn’t start repairing lines as the winds were over 30 mph last night. Two people dead from falling trees, I’m guessing there will be more. We got a ton of rain, it was 58 degrees out, lost a couple trees in the yard, and have been without power since 1PM yesterday. Plan on taking a walk around today to see how bad the damage is.

At least the propane tank for the generator is full, and it’s humming along. The in-laws lost two poles coming up their driveway to big spruce and pine trees, CMP told them a week or so before they get to them. They run a WWII generator to keep the lights on.

So far I've heard that we have 4 powerhouses flooded in Maine.
Doesn't help they're probably right on the river :flipoff2: Fuck I miss the hydro industry

Trash cans floated away down by the road, couple trees down at my place, dad dairy barn flooded badly, someone gave me a big 110v sewage pump that that worked pisser for draining the barn.

Dunno how I missed this thread last time. I was right in the middle of this in July being on Terrible Mountain in Andover, VT. Couldn't get home from work because every road getting into town was washed out or under water. I saw some BIG water on that drive home. I've never seen the streams raging as hard as they were that day.

This storm didn't bring as much. Saw a few side roads washed out on social media and on my way in this morning, but the water wasn't nearly as high.

Too bad this shit doesn't happen in the Boston area.

The primary access way to my house was under 12" of water as the little stream that feeds my lake became a big stream, took out a few more trees and blocked up the culverts.

I was down there with the Komatsu pulling the trees when the town rolled up, thinking to fine me, They also said they were going to do what I was doing in about 7 days. Funny, the road is on my land and I do what I please.

No more flooded road way.

Every time I see that "max 30k" (or whatever it is) sign by the culvert I think to myself "someday"

It's max 33K :)

They after me for an additional easement on my property to go bigger culverts and run off drainage. Yes, that bridge is on my land, by about a half acre.

I told them to just buy it this time.

Been running on generator power since about 5 pm last night. I had 2 trees come down in my yard in the storm we got a few weeks ago. This storm I got away pretty clean. Mostly branches and a small tree down in the driveway. Worst thing I had to deal with was some washout under the blocks the big propane tank that feeds the kitchen stove sits on. On my inspection this morning I noticed it sitting crooked and leaning against the wall of the house. I’ve already filled in under it with some larger drainage rock with fresh gravel on top and gotten it back level on the blocks.

lots and lots of downed trees and power lines all over the place. Some washed out camp roads though last weeks storm was worse with washouts. Oh and I just heard our dispatch is about to lose power. Guessing their generator is about out of fuel. So that’s going to be fun considering every department in the county has been running around like mad since yesterday and we are still getting calls for downed trees and lines today because the ground is so soft now.

We got flooding & some places are w/o power from trees falling on power lines. Be safe-

No power call generator. Bethel is in Island, Rumford basically an island. I’m headed that direction after I get my neighbors driveway open to bring my dad’s tractor back to him. He kayaked into the trailer park he owns this morning…

I’ve been texting the people I work with at CMP. Was trying to get a contract in place for us to do storm duty last night, but my corporate overlords are meatheads.

My office in Augusta actually has a deck that goes out over the kennebec. spent all morning there just watching the shit show. as it turns out, propane and CO2 tanks float…

One from before hand. The rest as of lunchtime today.

holy shit!!

People are dumb. Just got back from getting called out to a downed tree and line across the road. Ironically one we already know about and have had coned off since yesterday. I get there to find most of the cones we placed no longer across the road. This area has a very large pine tree only being held up by the telco line and it’s leaning well out across the road. The power lines themselves are down on. The road and running across both lanes. Turns out the residents of the nearby road have been just moving the cones and driving right over the downed line and under the overhanging tree. As I am there replacing the cones on the end of the area I’m on, I watched 2 cars just drive right around the 3 cones at the other end and come right on up the road, driving right over the powerline without a care in the world.

so I replace the cones across the whole road at the end I’m on and walk a couple more down to the other side of the area. As I’m walking down I see a car pull up behind my truck (which has emergency lights on and flashing), pull into the opposite lane next to it, get out, move two cones and drive thru them, get out and out them back, and proceed across the downed line to where I am replacing the cones on the far side. Him and his wife proceed to get out of the car, move the cones out of their way, cuss me out for blocking the road and proceed to turn down their road. What the actual fuck is wrong with people?

Maine, its a way of life

If all the people are like that it's not the people. :flipoff2:

92 Green YJ the entire time you did not say a thing????

Why would you? Dumb needs to hurt more.

the ones that came up from the other end didn’t even roll their windows down or look at me as I drove by despite me having my arms up in the “seriously” position. The one that got out to move the cones at the end I had to bite my tongue as she was cussing me out for blocking the road and saying they don’t have to listen to me because I’m not a real firefighter according to her. She had a FDNY hoody on and was saying her 80 something year old husband was a real firefighter unlike me. From the looks of him maybe he was 20 years ago, but he’s long since surely been retired. I didn’t engage with her tirade though and just finished replacing the cones and walked back to my truck and left. Can’t fix stupid.

Well, if it's safe enough to get out on foot and set cones it's certainly safe enough to drive through.

it was a bit sketchy. I gave the tree a very wide berth and went as far on the other side of the ditch as I could to stay away from the line on the road. Heard the line crews are finally out there dealing with it now. We still don’t have line power though. I hear the faint hum of the Generac still cruising along outside.

So just got home. Took the tractor Bethel through the dumbest route possible, didn’t have to cross water until I was on the private road where it was about as deep as my trailer deck.

Andro is receding and Bethel is more of an awkward peninsula than island. Can get in via 118 from Norway or 26 now from Greenwood. I believe RT2 is still F’d for now, and Rumford got swamped from the drone shots I’m seeing.

I saw a picture from a S/S tech we work with of a wall on one of the buildings blown out on one of the dams in Fairfield.

Then we went back to Augusta to see the Kennebec crest. I feel like I’m looking at pictures of the 1987 flood.

Vs street view of the same spot. I work in the left building with a deck, which is where a lot of my pics are from.

djljeep your office with the wrap around porch in the center?
Yes. Weirdly enough, other than they cut power and natural gas, our stuff is unaffected. We have stuff stored one story down, and the water got to the bottom of the joists of that floor. Our heating system never got wet. The other building with a deck has issues - their boilers are at ground level. Obviously other buildings on front street have issues.

We went in today and tried to get our severs back up to get some files off. My M18 top off was doing it until it wasn’t. A trip to autozone and harbor freight for a 2000w inverter later…

Side note: I’m guessing we have some mutual contacts if you work for Brookfield.
