What's new

Vt, nh, folks

WTF is it with those states all sharing the same names?! Like, seriously.

All the biblical names that repeat are because Eastern MA was settled by the Christian equivalent of the Taliban and then when more normal people showed up as a result of GTFOing from England due to the English civil war and adjacent religious hostilities they immediately (i.e. within a generation or two) headed for points west and north in order to get out from under the thumb of the assholes in Boston.

All the English town names are where various settling groups were from.

All the English surname names are where relevant people were from.

Maybe 93 to 2? Just did a quick Google Map. Concord to Belfast.
Yeah thats a way to go. Pretty slow backroad numbered route, but it'll get you there eventually.

We’re staying in Franconia to see Jericho and Mt. Washington. After seeing 38’s in that water I’ll keep my 33’s on drier land.
You'll be fine up that way.

Too soon?

I've done 2 a couple times at odd hours. It's the other drivers that make it slow.

Northern New England and CT drivers generally suck (RI are a little better but not much) and think that anything that isn't a highway with a 100ft wide clear cut right of way and 3/4 mile visibility should be driven at no faster than 30 on the curves and maybe 50 if you're lucky on the straights.

Any New Hampshire/Maine guys with a weather, road condition report near the coast?

It looks like rain every day up there. We’re considering cancelling our trip up north.
Maine side of things will be fine. Its rained a ton, but based on the other threads of your trip, your route will be fine, possibly a couple patched roads up in Northern Oxford/Franklin county though, but the Towns and DOT are doing pretty well at least filling in the holes. The Jay/Livermore falls area took a flash flood a couple weeks ago (like 6-10 inches of rain in like a couple hours). That being said, its obviously rained a ton this summer.

That's Jericho VT. Not sure how Jericho NH did in all this. Luckily Mt Washington is the highest peak in the northeast. Your 33s will be fine on the auto road :flipoff2:
Same as Western Maine - may be a washout here and there, but they didn't get beat as hard.

I lol'd. I saw a thing once that Americans are taught that the Pilgrims came here "seeking religious freedom" and that Europeans are taught that they were "Christian/Religious extremist Refugees". Pretty much every other town in Maine is named for a foreign country or capital/major city. Sometimes make giving directions to people from away interesting if they are well traveled.

Places I’ve been in New England and NY that are just towns

Peru
Florida
Texas
Mexico
China
Berlin

Plenty more.

Forgot the other thing I was gonna post - A friend of mine in the Killington Area posted up some pictures. One of them was of his deckover Goose trailer literally buried in his yard/driveway.

The Killington Jeep Jamboree is coming right up, so that'll be interesting.

I enjoy telling people I was born in Norway, and grew up in between Paris and Mexico.

All those fields got fucked.

If they leave it till next year and don't plow it under, it should make for some good hunting. I figure Animals still go to the fields to eat but can't hide in the Stalks.

Biggest problem is what got washed over them. They are going to need to test the soil.

We’re seeing western Maine is on flood watch now and Connecticut is flooding.

Scrambling to look for another destination. Ya’ll are a mess up there. :flipoff2:

Hope all the Irate guys are doing okay.

Bethel/western Maine took a lot rain today. They had a storm sit over them all day yesterday and the whole left half of the state got soaked today. The only impassable roads I've seen on the facepage are typical lowland flooding and a few gravel roads. Depending on what the Andro does tonight/tomorrow that may change...

We just canceled everything last night and are headed back out to South Dakota.

Maybe someday I’ll see the ocean. It’s low on my priority list, though.

Pussy. It hasn't affected many of us. Rt 11 is washed out and a shit show, but thats a terrible way to for anything.

If flying solo it would be one thing, with family, I get it

I don’t want to waste money and time in an area that doing a circle into all the bad locations is going to impassable, or if it’s going to rain every. single. day.

Honestly, I didn’t even want to come up there. The wife picked it. I wanted to go out west anyways. :flipoff2:

take some water with you to west. I heard they need it!

Yeah, all its done here is fuckin rain. Now I have a better understanding of how grunge music was formed, I'd be depressed too if it was like this all the time :flipoff2:
Same in Pennsylvania. I’m tired of wet weather.

I talked to someone at work who just got back from SD. They said it’s beautiful this year from all the spring rain. Nice and green. It was nice and green when we first went out in 2019.

Since my post yesterday, I've seen a lot more damage in New Hampshire and Southern/Western Maine. Come back on a year where our weather isn't marking the record books every week.

Nothing here in Jackson NY but surrounding towns have some flooding. My wife had to detour to get home from Bennington. Stay safe.
