One of our son’s friends is an aircraft mechanic and gets to fly in one of these today. They go to Dubuque every year to practice formations before the EAA event in Osh Kosh.

My favorite type of Texan. Went solo in a T6G, still amazed they let a bunch of 17 and 18 year old kids into the sky on their own in these beasts.

21 liter 9 cylinder radial, 550 hp on military power.

Had a 3 ship formation flight at Mosport last weekend.

We have 2 SN-J’s at the shop right now.
The instructor flights flew the J’s. They were a little quicker, cleaner, and a bit more power if I remember correctly

The South African Airforce used them as basic trainers until the early 90’s. Some great aviators were trained on those birds. Loved watching them at Reno

You gonna be at Roswell next year?
I'm planning on it.

Pretty sure the SNJ was the Navy version. No tailwheel steering is the one difference that pops to mind, probably a few others..

Pretty sure you are correct
The SAAF accumulated as many Harvards as they could post WW2. I trained at AFS Dunnotar in 1984 and there were still brand new engines in crates stamped WW2 years. Also brand new airframes never assembled

Believe it was 1989 or 1990 they managed to put a 50 ship formation flight together - 50th anniversary of their use- with 55 a/c in the air including photo and spotters and spare plane. Was something to behold

I imagine it's going to be a complete shit show for lodging and the like.
Should be great
Hoping to have confirmation of my 2025 race plans in the next couple weeks.
Then I can plan
Air races in Roswell
Oshkosh
Month at our lodge for Safari time

It is the 40th anniversary of earning my wings in the airforce. 13 of us left from 19. Reunions planned in South Africa and likely Oshkosh

I haven't seen exact dates either.
Waiting for the press release so I can reserve one of the 50 hotel rooms there immediately a year in advance.
Maybe we should just fly out and rent an RV?
Reno really was the perfect venue.

Hotels over book like airlines. They will bump you with no recourse other than a refund. Happened to my coworker when she booked for the eclipse a month in advance. She spend 8+hr on hold and talking to customer service.

oh no a month in advance for something that everyone knew was going to happen for years.....

sounds like your coworker should have been earlier.
I plan on being real early.

I scouted my usual hotel chain but they won’t book more than 365 days out in NM. Will be calling my customer representative on Monday.

I am assuming second week / weekend of September. I book enough rooms a year she won’t mind if I book all weekends in September and cancel what I don’t use.

We are far from the only ones planning reservations as soon as they announce dates

I meant to say year, not month. She called the week of to confirm.

If you book so far in advance that the rates don't reflect that there's "something" going on that they should jack rates for they will bump you first because you're paying a cheap rate.

There's no winning, unless you steal enough shit to make up for it. But that's hard to do in most hotel rooms.

Have they been re-engined with an R-3350 or R-4360 or are they still running the Bristol Centaurus?
We have one with a Centaurus, one with a 2800, and the race plane has a 4360.
Also have 2 customer fury’s, one with one of the lowest hour Centaurus’s, and one with a wright 3350.
I put together a 2800 kit to go to navy wings in England to repower the fury they have about a month ago, it’s on its way over there now.

Various replies from my course mates correcting my memory

- We didn’t fly the G. That was the instructors aircraft if I remember correctly. We flew the B or C. I can’t remember exactly which one.

- I have looked through my book on Harvards. Apart from the standard II and III, As and C's, we had a handful of T-6Gs and then a few SNJ-3; SNJ-4s.

- I think the J’s were Canadian built T6Gs. Called a Harvard MK4.

- Didn't look at every line Andy but all our Sammy's have ex US c/n numbers followed by an ex RAF number; however there are some under the SA Civil register that have CCF as their c/n. It will take a while to tally all this up.
