Vermont Pushes EVs, Now Plans Mileage Tax

NYC did that 20yr ago. Someone hacked up an EZ pass to display every time it got read. It lit up at roughly every other light.

Diminishing returns....
so what you're saying is I need a "device" that "perhaps" sends "spurious" RF emissions on some "random" frequencies?

If they think that I'm above pulling the gauge cluster fuse and driving around without gauges they're dumber than they sound.
Don't bitch when your roads aren't fixed. DOT ain't got no money for your town. Too many potholes to fix in the big cities where people can't pull the gauge cluster. They aren't dumb. They just don't give a fuck like many others.

Odometer Laws

Nevada Pilot Program

The Nevada Legislature has directed the DMV to gather odometer readings during most vehicle registration transactions. It's the law! The pilot project runs through December 31, 2026.

Two legislative bills, Assembly Bill 483 from the 2019 session and Senate Bill 371 from the 2021 session, direct the DMV to gather an odometer reading at the time of any original vehicle registration, registration renewal or vehicle sale.

The mileage data will help legislators plan for future road construction.

Data from odometer readings become part of your vehicle history and are used to compile reports of total miles driven for the Legislature. There are no fees, taxes or fines associated with this program.

New Federal Rule

The federal odometer disclosure period has been extended from 10 years to 20 years, beginning with 2011 vehicles. This is separate from the state pilot program.

The following vehicle types are included and are REQUIRED to provide a current odometer reading for each new and renewed registration: (All Fuel Types including Alternative Fuels and Electric, all sizes and weights)

  • Passenger Cars
  • Trucks
  • Buses
  • Truck/Tractor’s
The following vehicle types are EXEMPT from submitting an odometer reading at the time of registration:

  • Motorcycle or Moped
  • RV’s - Motor Homes
  • Vehicles Registered as Farm Vehicles
  • Commercial vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan (IRP) with a declared gross weight in excess of 10,000 pounds.

and for those wanting to discuss mileage out of state...

My vehicle is not being driven in Nevada.

The mileage data is not based on where the vehicle is being driven, only the number of miles. The law requires your odometer reading be reported at the time of any new registration or renewal regardless of the vehicle's location.

My point is you can't stop this, you all will be in here 3-5 years from now bitching about it. But you will pay, or you won't drive.
States can't print money. I will cost the state as much as they take from me.

And I'll do everything I can reasonably do (i.e. I'm not gonna build a killdozer tomorrow because some worthless piece of shit leech who profits of the system tells me to, that's just not an efficient use of resources at my disposal) to make life at least marginally worse for people who buy into the racket along the way. And yes, that starts with calling out those pieces of shit on the internet.

Compliant people are the problem. The .gov is a symptom. It will always grow as large as the consent of the governed lets it.

And in no way do I support it, but Wifey's new car has 27 cameras, one is pointed at the driver. All new cars after 2026 will have the ability to pull you over to the side of the road.
God forbid you drive an old car.

Jesus fucking christ, this is a forum where people rebuild their own engines and set up gears.

Perhaps.

IDK enough about how EZpass works.

But seeing as all the toll plazas are carpet bombed with cameras that might not be a wise idea on anything other than a hot rod that could plausibly have a bunch of spurious garbage coming off the ignition.

You'd probably have a good long run before someone "looked into it" though.

I think looking like the definition of "you can't squeeze blood from a stone" is the way to go.

What in the fuck are you talking about? The roads aren't fixed now.
So nothing will change when the state brings a vehicle mileage tax you don’t want to pay.

Maybe Texas can send some money from the transplants they don’t want.

You were busy in a thread talking shit about an engine I just built. I only drive old cars. Wife can do whatever she wants with her money.

I understand other places did it long ago, but central and northern Maine has now caught up. The “need” for it is just to track people.

Portland installed smart street lights with WiFi, and some have cameras. The stupid residents supported it, and raved about the free WiFi connections through the city.

they work on 915mhz.

Kind of relevant to this thread.

PA just boned the EV owners, passing a law to add $200 a year to registration to EV owners to cover the missing gas taxes.

Electric vehicle owners would pay $250 registration fee under legislation passed in Pa. House

mainly on traditional fossil fuel vehicle drivers while EV drivers benefit..

“We all have a responsibility to fund these roads, fund our bridges, and safety,” Benninghoff said. “These vehicles have a lot of weight to them, and their impact is significant.”

But House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee Chairman Greg Vitali (D-Delaware) noted the fee would be the second-highest in the nation and could turn some consumers away from EVs. Texas charges a $400 fee in the first year that a new EV is registered and $250.75 a year thereafter.

“We should be encouraging the use of EV vehicles, not discouraging it,” Vitali said, noting that many EV owners pay a premium for their vehicles because they want to do the right thing. “As far as the environment goes, they are concerned with climate change. They are concerned with air pollution. They are concerned with our dependency on foreign oil.”

Vitali was one of six Democrats who voted against the bill.

Rep. Joseph Hohenstein (D-Philadelphia) said that while the legislation is not an answer to climate change, it does address a pressing issue for the state.

“This is a fantastic bill that does move everything forward, but it also has a lot of elements that kick the can down the road, and we will need to address these issues in the future of both our energy usage and our basic fundamental transportation funding. And this is one element of it, but it is not where we end,” Hohenstein said.

Blah blah hate for California....

They charge us gas avoidance fee and a smog check avoidance fee, LOL

Same as Texas, my brother thinks is unfair...
What's your proposition?

All taxes and fees suck, but if that avoids a milage based tax for everyone, I'm all for raising the fees to register an EV. It is funny watching Dems defend wealthy people, which is primarily who are buying EVs as they are usually a 2nd car and fucking expensive.

Also if an extra $200 discourages adoption, it means the product sucks.

I just can’t :lmao: how does saving the environment have no value? Kids won’t get asthma no more, the skies will be so clear!

Now that I mentioned clear skies, I’m off to see if anyone studied any lasting changes or effects from “2 weeks to flatten the curve”

So you leave San Diego go over the mountain, drop into desert where it’s 115 and get in line to charge. lol

^ None of these people felt bad about getting tax rebates/$ off, walked around with a chip on their shoulder. Talking about sticking it to the man via better gas mileage.

Let them pay into the pot, fk em.
There will never be enough money for road repairs, it is just sad nothing is getting repaired, what little they do repair its piss poor in planning/quality of the execution.
