Unimog 404.111 build

The extension itself is 15”, when I only needed 12” behind the seat. So including the rear piece, I probably only needed 9” of extension
Well, you’re not going to have too much room in the cab. But if it really bugs you, now’s the time.

Nothing like KoH to motivate you to get into the shop lol.

When I test fitted the cab on the frame the top oil line was about 1/8” from the cab and with the way the drivetrain moves in the frame I wasn’t comfortable with that. I redid these oil lines to be lower profile and should have about an inch of room now. Minor … but it’s a put-the-mind-at-ease thing.

I’ve read a lot about how inconsistent oil pressures can damage your turbo (aside from tow pigs, this is my first turbo’d rig) so I added a Turbosmart T40 pressure regulator which dumps oil in from turbo’s oil feed line to keep a consistent pressure. I cut out a bracket to mount it and bent .25” SS bent for the lines.

Oil comes from the other side of the block, top line here:

Around and under exhaust to the regulator:

From there the 40psi oil continues straight towards the front and comes in the cool side of the turbo:

Aaand into the turbo:

The excess oil gets dumped to the oil pan, still need to make that connection, but you can see the end resting on an existing oil pan port I’ll be plumbing that into.

Are you saying too much pressure is a problem on a turbo? I’ve never heard of that. Does it blow the seals?

Exactly, I got this motor and the stock turbo had a blown seal. Most turbos spec for 40 to 50 psi max. RPM, temps, viscosity can all cause fluctuations. Sometimes at start up the initial pressure can be triple digits.

FWIW, my research is just on this diesel OM617 and the turbo I put on it.

Hmmmm, I just noticed my OP is high as shit on cold mornings.

Om617's have a very high spec for cold oil pressure and a very low spec for hot idle oil pressure, mine was 80psi at cold start and down to 5psi hot idle. I'm using doomsdaydiesel's turbo feed kit with restrictor fitting to feed the turbo I also got from doomsday.

I'm using his plate and not the restrictor. I know he knows his MB diesels but I think he's wrong about that restrictor fitting. If you look inside it, that fitting just has a smaller pathway through it then opens back up.

So, if you follow Bernoulli's Principle:

..... I don't think those restrictors are protecting shit.

I could be wrong. I thought it happened before but I was mistaken :fo2:

Restrictor fittings have been in use for a long time in all different forms, carb jets for instance.

Got a little time in the shop this weekend, bent up a new line so hydraulic clutch is plumbed in:

Then I forced myself to get back at the cab stretch. I really hate body work, I had a good quote from Grendel to do it and wish I would have gone that route, because I loathe this part ... but I never done it before so at least I can say I have.... to which many will reply "Yea we can tell" :lmao:

That cab stretch looks like a damn good job.
I keep telling a friend of mine that worries about having everything perfect on his builds that most interweb A-holes who critique are never getting their asses of the couch , just go for it.
