Ultra4 4600 VW Touareg V10 TDI Build

I saw this pic the other day and it reminded me of this thread. Vehicle Feature - VW Race Baja Touareg Trophy Truck - race-deZert.com

Super late response I know, but I think Arciero dropped an LS into this and is still using it as a prerunner - I always thought it was a good looking car - speaking of which, Pharr - how's it going?

Yes and yes. Since they were based off Raglands Arnold, they fit a cheby body pretty well. Pump gas LS and a T400 make for a pretty reliable pre-runner.

Edit, I think one is complete in a VW museum in Germany. The third one that rolled is MIA and probably parted out.

I think you're right.
Jerry Zaiden got a tour of the vault a few months ago and snapped a pic of it.

Ok, memory is coming back. There were only 2 Tourags. I was thinking of the Trailblazer program with 3 trucks. They chassis were extremely similar between those 2 programs. A lot of the same people.

This car is one of the reasons I started off-roading my first Touareg years ago.

Update: life got in the way for a bit, but I'm getting back into it. Currently working on a way to shift the transmission. All forward gears, line pressure, and torque converter lockup and clutch pressure are all computer controlled. The stock TCM uses wheel speed sensors and sends power cuts to the ECUs for shifting and a whole boat load of wheel slip conditions. It's crap for racing. PRND is controlled with a lever/detents like a normal transmission but there's no 1/2 so a physical shifter doesn't really exist. I could use a standard 3 speed or powerglide auto shifter and just lock out 1/2, but the transmission also activates solenoids during shifts in those gears and I'd need to adapt micro switches to make that work so I made my own.

I'm using a set of Fanatec sim racing paddles on the steering wheel with a few buttons and knobs to control line pressures TC lockup, TC clutch engagement percentage. Data like temp or any warning info will get sent to the lowrances over the NMEA2000 network so my co-driver can read it.

Things left to do:
The rear suspension had some funky articulation geometry, so it's getting put back in now. The front bumpsteer and cancer curve was atrocious and I had a few perma-temp fixes in place so that needs to be addressed. And the driveline has similar issues and needs to be fixed as well.

Basically finished.

Glad to read that you are back to working on this again.

But for real, not much has changed. I've been working on it and making progress, but it's a bunch of "l moved a bracket ½" and small crap. I'm registered and have travel arrangements booked. I'll be there. Again. Again.

And this:
