Tourist submarine exploring Titanic wreckage disappears in Atlantic Ocean

This. Bolted shut from the outside with no way to get out from inside is incredibly stupid.

Just imagine. You hear of this project and you're like "Oh wow. That's really cool and seems right up my alley. I think I could help them out and make good money in the process. Sweet!" But then it quickly turns into "Oh fuck, these people are dangerously idiotic and they're gonna get people killed and setback any potential similar future projects." You bring up your concerns, get fired, likely try to raise the alarms elsewhere and get dismissed as a disgruntled former employee. Just ugh.

The biggest difference, besides getting there, is that the vacuum of space is only 1 atmosphere (-15psi). The Titanic is at +5000 psi. Obviously it's more complicated than that but, there's a huge difference in structural requirements.
From my understanding, the vacuum of space is an order of magnitude 10^20 less than sea level atmospheric pressure. Where these guys are at is about 10^3 levels of magnitude greater than sea level.

There are of course, two sides to every story.

This is an interesting read. There is a documentary on Netflix about its dives.

I just looked up Alvin the sub that found the Titanic. Its still kicking and has over 5000 dives under its belt. It's rated for something like 4 miles deep.

No idea where it's at currently but I doubt it can get back to the titanic in time.

Woods hole Mass.

And, of course, Netflix is the gold standard for peer reviewed and methodologically correct analysis.

That sub is sixty years old. IIRC it was used in looking for the lost H-bombs at Palomares in the 60s.

The worst part about this isn't the five bodies and the massive waste of money.

It's that for the next 40yr the clipboard and safety vest types will say something that should earn them a 12ga slug between the eyes and then use this to back it up as an example.
I don’t know. There are a shitload of real red flags here that should not be duplicated.

We know more about the surface of other planets than we do about the bottom of the Ocean on our own. There's an entire, almost completely alien world right here on Earth.
That's a very, very misleading statement.

We know very different things about each.

There are an order of magnitude Jimmy Numbers type "they shouldn't let that thing leave the shop without X" type whiners than there are legitimate whistle blowers.

No shit people get dismissed unless they have credible evidence beyond "here's some emails showing that these people didn't make subjective judgement calls as conservatively as I would have" with them.

Well, considering it looks almost certain to turn into a 12,000 foot deep underwater tomb for five people I'd say that's pretty much checkmate for the other side of the story.

Fair enough. Statement was intended to be broad and it's a statement made by countless before me. Still, for context, neither of us are wrong.

So.... If you were concerned on Oxygen, would you go ahead and Clinton the weakest one or would it be the biggest one, because he is using more O2??

I mean the bigger one would require more initial energy to take out, but would it be worth the exsertion>
You take out who is panicking the most. Scared people breathe faster and use more oxygen

You seem to be correct alright.

Alvin, aboard the Navy tender ship Lulu, was lost as it was being transported on 16 October 1968.

That's where the institute that owns it is, but I doubt it spends much time there. It could be anywhere in the world.

Its support ship Atlantis was off the coast of Norway 14 hours ago according to marine tracker.

that's 3000 miles away, might be able to make it in time to recover the bodies.
