What's new

Thefishguy77’s attempt at chainsaw art...

I have one of the chainsaw death wheels for my angle grinder. I was hollowing out a burl to make a big bowl. It kicked back at me and got caught up in the hoodie and t-shirt that I was wearing. I was so lucky it didn't disembowel me. I wear a leather welding jacket when I use it now, and only use it on my 4.5" grinder and not a 5" to hope its easier to stall. Every time I use it, there is at least one sketchy moment. You have to be on your A-game when you are using it.

With me trying to make my chainsaw carving hobby a side hustle I figure I either need to sign or brand my work. I like the idea of a brand burned into the carving somewhere, bottom or back type locations. Anybody make them? Know of a good place that makes them? I could fairly easily come up with a design that works. Basically my name type deal. Whats ya got?
Believe it ir not, My daughter makes them, it is a side hustle that she has, or main employment beings her full time job is middle school at the moment, depends on how you look at it.
They are pretty simple to make, and a whole lot less dangerous than a chainsaw on a grinder thing

I'd say they should really be used on grinders with a paddle switch instead of one with a switch that stays on. That way you at least have a chance that it will slow down if you let go of the paddle.

You sir have never been hit with a grinder or a chain saw?....that switch is going to make about >< difference, you will be effed up and will bring a truck load of the suck:laughing:

I think the biggest part, is the kerf, there is actually nothing for the Dr. to stich...
That is a direct memo from 17y/o me:laughing:

I agree, it won't make much difference but at least your clothing and body will help slow it down and stop sooner instead of it just powering through.

......and it happens sooooo fast, so fast it doesn't even hurt until tomorrow
30 years later, I can still hear it

I know a guy that said the same thing aout an electric lawnmower. Got plugged and stopped, he was used to gas so when its not making noise its off. Well he reached in to pull the plug and off came his thumb. He said it happened even faster that his dad told him it would happen. Just fucking gone. That you Kyle?

I, uh, had a neighbor, Glen. He used to make chainsaw sculptures... and then he'd sell 'em at the flea market. Yeah. So, uh, you an artist or somethin'?

Actually I worked with a guy that did that with his index finger it was gas mower
pretty sure that where he imagined where the blade was spinning , wasn't where his finger found it in the chute

I got hit with a kickback while using a cup brush.

One second I was wearing a shirt the next second my shirt was being eaten by a grinder while it was winding down.

Im lucky I stiff armed it or it would have gutted me.

Dang, nice work.

Don't think ive seen female body like ones on front of wooden ship but I'd buy one with nips :grinpimp:

All my years of cutting up tree with chainsaw, I didn't think about trying arts. I'll try one next time but it'll turn out like shit compared to yours.

FYI there's a bunch of angle grinder attachments for carving wood (and removing body parts too!).

I've used some and they're awesome (on wood, not body parts yet).

As much as I would like to make fun of your stuff I couldn't do near as good. Plus I would def fuck myself up somehow. That's where my real talent lies.

Right on

I tried to carve a chair into a stump once, ended up just cutting the stump lower to hide it

What did you use for eyes?

Nice work op

Well the coffee shop in town sells all sorts of local stuff. She told me to carve some trees and bring them in. My BBQ is currently turning into a small forest. I am at about 15 minutes a tree hopefully they sell for around $20-25 She thinks that sounds about right
