Thefishguy77’s attempt at chainsaw art...

Finished Squatch.

Might paint some eyeballs but want it raw.

Face needs some fine tuning. But is sand paper work so I work on that here and there. The face was a hell of a lot harder than I expected. I need some more practice. The sign is going to be reversible. Welcome/Go Away.

How much time do you have into it as is?

Started on another squatch. He is about 5’. Got the body blocked out and rough furred out in about 2 hrs. Face is real rough currently and the hands and feet are blocks. Probably will have enough time friday to hopefully finish him.
Painted the eyes nose and mouth of the first squatch. Fuck that I need to sand it down. Knocked out a bear in a log today out of a piece of Yellow Cedar. Trying to get enough shit carved before the summer season kicks in.

Shipping on a bear...I know it's a PIA, but I'm serious. She likes the one with the black nose better.

Other option is I drive up there during salmon or steelhead season. :usa:

So that bear in a log is Yellow cedar. Im assuming it was a top of a very old tree because it was hard as a MFer. I was carving red cedar knowing my saw needed to be sharpened but was still pulling chips and not dust. I set up that yellow cedar and it instantly was barely cutting it. A sharpening was in order and it still was slow even compared to cutting big leaf maple. Thats so super tight growth rings.

Just started watching "A Cut Above" on discovery +, super talented artists on there, worth a gander if you dig the wood carving.

Need one holding a picket style sigh in one hand saying "go away" and holding the middle finger up with the other hand

I’m getting there. Want to have at least 6 done by the start of the farmers market. Also need to get eagles, owls, bears done. With some FJB signs as well.

Im about 4 hours in on this one

[ ✓ ] Helmet

[ ] Fire department on speed dial
Bet your real fun at parties:lmao: I burn outside the sawdust area on a gravel driveway. Electrical cord is obviously a problem but unplugged when not in use.

Be careful. A first nations wood carver I met, and bought a small totem pole from for my wife, lost his shop and his house beginning of February. Fire started in his carving shop.

I am aware. I try and clean the majority of sawdust weekly. Chainsaw carving break all the rules no matter what. From running you chain very loose on detail bars to concentration of saw dust. We also get complacent in burning our carvings in our carving area. I seriously try and only burn in my driveway. But yea its a serious thing for sure, fortunately my carving area is detached from the house

Probably going to try and figure out a separate leanto type building for dedicated carving but then need to figure out how to get power there. Dont want to necessarily use a generator for power there
