The TRACTOR thread

Is this
a) super rare and must buy
Or
B) hack-tacular cobbled together hot garbage?

Was 4wd even a thing in this era of tractors?

pretty sure its hacktacular all the way around. factory 4wd was very rare in that era, I think not offered if it really is a 64. its a potato picture, but the front axle reminds me of coleman conversions done on other brands

Someone bought a cheap 4wd tractor in 1990 and hacked on more wheels because that was easier than properly draining the fields.

Look up Ford Elenico 4x4 conversion.

scroll down about halfway for some pieces pictures. (more than one axle type was used);

This is why I love this place: holy sheet, it was a thing outside of back 40 redneck engineering.

Anybody else seeing all the project tractors, 8N/9N’s, 60 year old gassers popping up for sale by the dozens around you? I don’t want any of that stuff but I have a watch alert set for marketplace so every new listing with the word tractor pings me. I’m seeing stuff for the 4th or 5th relisting with price drops.

Yes.

Everyone who had fantasies of fixing and/or flipping that shit is being crushed by financial reality.

Finally saved up enough money to buy a new turbo for the tractor. My Ebay turbo rebuild kit failed and she was spitting oil out the exhaust and smoking like hell. I parked it til I could get a new one. Ended up buying a new turbo thru Area Diesel for about 75% of what Mother Deere wanted for a rebuilt one. Shows to be a direct replacement and even lists the Deere part number that I need so I am hoping that will get me fixed up.

Cut my foam filled tires off my front wheels.

Looks like the rims are okay after doing so. Now to clean them up and put new tires on.

Actually had no idea how to do it. Never worked on anything this small. 7-16. But wasn't bad. Sawzall most of it. Used a die grinder to expose the steel belts in the bead.
Then air hammer with a sharp chisel to cut the steel belts.

If they weren’t flat why mess with them?
