TG vs Diamond vs ???

All good if you're OK with the 3 different tires available for 16.5s

The modern solution is factory superduty 17s. Iirc, they're 17x8 with 6.5-7" bs
Not saying superduty 17’s aren’t a great choice for that…

But hummer (not hmmwv) did have a 17” wheel option in the later years. Pricy AF if you went that route though

I’ll bump this thread to see what’s the hotness in 609 builds. Just picked up a SD60 front to donate C’s and outers on a front axle build. 3RZ Tacoma on 37’s, 3linked, and duals.

Had a set of TG 609’s for a few weeks now. Build quality seems good. The fabbed front c’s are kind of anchors. Would be nice if they had a drain, but double nutting the lowest 3rd stud seems to work fine.

They are wider than my Currie/Diamonds and the brakes are solid. Wish the front was a hi-pinon

I thought about the fabbed C’s route but running stock 05+ SD 60 C’s is probably plenty for me and way cheaper since I doubt that I’ll ever break stock outer stuff with a 3RZ.

My new 609s are the new from Letzroll Offroad. Stock SD outers/Cs with their LM1 housings. Both offset to the Driver side for identical axle shafts Fr/Rr. They are fairly new but decided to give them a shot. Andrew has been on the ball with communication and answers all of my questions/comments same day. BTW the quote on HP10s is 8K for the set. Or save a little and go with the Hi-9 route. He was cool on the phone as well and was a Toyota/Suzuki guy back in the day. He quoted 2 weeks delivery to your door from the day that the order was placed. Not too shabby.

$8k with diffs? Complete hub to hub? That cheap!

The new hotness is gonna be Tundra 10.5 with 60 outers. Just wait and see!!! :stirthepot:

Did they finally start making aftermarket gears for those? Last time I remember checking on yota 10.5 stuff there were only like 2 or maybe 3 ratios available but that was several years ago.

Yes.

Yes and no, pretty sure it's only 4.88 and 5.29s. Which isn't terrible as that's what 90% of people run.

Still, it would be nice to see it get more support to make it a more viable option.

Has a few lockers now as well?

What other ratios are needed? 5.71’s? :flipoff2:

4.56, 5.13, 5.38, 6.20

Like I said, 4.88/5.29 does cover 90% of people. It just seems like it's not well supported. Would suck to drop a ton of money building a set then things get discontinued because they're not popular.

I'm not really sure you're saving any money over a 9" center anyway

You want gears for the 10 that have never been available for any other Toyota?

The Toyota has pinion height advantages, but it’s never going to supersede a 9”, imho

What does an 8" have anything to do with the 10.5"? More options just shows more support, hence the 9" having like 200 options from 2:00 to 7.50:1

I was just trying to say, I'd like to see more support in my opinion.

Only has it over the low pinion obviously, but high pinion is only an option in the 9"

A part of me wants to hit the easy button and build another 9.5” for the front to match the rear. But I know the right answer is a 9”…probably a high pinion 9”

just buy a spidertrax housing and stuff it with whatever diffs you want. not sure id deal with the headache of the others

$1100 for a 3.5 Spidertrax housing seems like a no brainer compared to playing grabass with Diamond or Ruffstuff and just hoping it eventually ships or going TG.

If you just Google it, tg are like $950 vs spider Trax is $1100. But I swear someone on here said they saved like $800+ to his door on a pair of TG over spider Trax

I'm even talking after market support, we are down to what TG? I have been ghosted by FROR for coming up on a week now over a new spindle and knuckle studs. Marlins a lost cause at this point, and used parts are 30-40yrs old at this point.
Gawd I wish inchworm/ longfeild would've had an offspring company...

Who know for sure?

tina welded all the bells, bobby contracted rcv to make his 30sp and later the d60 stuff, bobby passed, rcv started selling to the public, tg bought longfield and puts the longfield name on chinese stuff

One additional thought... the TG front 609 has a pumpkin very close to the center of the truck. I'm sure that's partially for leaf spring packaging options.

But... It forces more lift as it gets very close to the oil pan on the 3rz at bump... If it was moved about 4" closer to the driver's side, it'd be a much better fit in the tacoma.
