Was looking for a teeny bearing for a router bit that I burned up, was getting nowhere with the Google, posted up in GCC, the tool forum, and on a lark in the RC forum. Less than ten minutes later had an answer in GCC, hadn't gotten more than a couple of views in the other forums. :smokin:

Forums are great for build threads and such, but quick answers for dumb questions will always do best in GCC... :flipoff2:

Oh, and >BACON!< 'cause I'm old school like that. :flipoff2:

Mods do mod things and just move them

The only thing keeping me from staring a monorail tech thread is the lack of a specific "Bombardier Mark VI Monorail" board.

I man, there could be ALWEG monorail boards, SAFEGE monorail boards, and Schwebebahn boards, but there's not a single monorail board at all. I R Sad.

I know, cry me a river, right?

we need a lawnmower subforum
and a chainsaw subforum
and a weedwacker subforum
and a concrete screw conveyor subforum
Definitely a tractor sub forum

And a excavator sub forum

And a mini excavator sub forum as a sub forum of the sub forum

And a backhoe sub forum

And a hydraulic sub forum

I can see preference entirely on how someone uses forums. I'm old school, I go to specific forums, mostly GCC, never use the 'new posts' button on any forum, and delve into a bit of everything in GCC. I'll hit a subforum if I feel like going down a rabbit hole for a while. I don't own a toyota or dodge, I don't go to the dodge or toyota subforums, but I will read a GCC thread just becuase I like to know a bit about everything since you never know when a bit of information will come in handy. (Jack of all trades, master of none...)
Personally I despise subforums that try to get too specific. I will never go into all of them and miss out on some good stuff, so GCC is a nice landing of everything. Moving posts after the fact I can handle, I'll still see them, and can follow them whereever they land.
We've been getting a few comments about tech in Chit-Chat so I'm curious your thoughts on what to do about it.

I get that when you post in Chit-Chat it may get more love but ... not everybody is here just for the Chat and it would be beneficial to have tech in the right places. Chit-Chat doesn't score as well in SERPS as opposed to the Tech forums so it's not helping the forum either.

So what to do? I'm down with a new 'General Fab' if we can agree to put stuff there. Stuff like:
These are just Random posts I picked, nothing against these idiots :flipoff2:

Whats a SERP and what does the title of a subforum affect that?
General fab/repair/tech. Fab alone is too specific since fab = fabrication = a pile of flat steel and making something from nothing. Sure, you might do some fab for an engine swap, but the main thing is still repair. (ie the porsche LS swap thread). Making a porsche from scratch, yeah, that would quality as fab.

Search
Engine
Result
Pages

So…. When you search Google, DuckSuckgo, MSN, etc ….. the pages the results they show you.

You can assign a ‘weight’, so to speak, of how relevant a sub-forum’s pages are to the overall meaning of the site. Threads in tech sub-forums get a higher ‘weight’ so search engines know that content is more what we want to be known for vs GCC chat.

The only thing I'd like to fix is whatever prevents me from finding kick ass build threads years after they are finished...

Yeah, mostly memory:laughing:

I try to remember the key words

It happens to me when I shitpost some conspiracy shit that comes true and I want to bring it back up with some "told you so" shitposting

I’m a mod for a popular football/sports forum and our solution to folks posting in the wrong forum is to move to the appropriate place and leave a redirect in place. The software allows to dictate how many days the redirect is active.
Basically the thread will be in the appropriate sub forum but still be visible where it was originally posted for a predetermined amount of time/days.

If that doesn’t work for this format, I’d vote for leave in place until it becomes inactive, then move.

This platform allows for a redirection to be of an indeterminate timeframe, ie whatever length we want including indefinitely.

Not sure why I haven’t looked yet, but I just did and it’s the same platform.

So yea, just moving and leaving a redirect for a few days may be the best solution win/win.
