What's new

Spinoff: are you drug tested regularly or tested when hired or not at all?

In the creative industry. If they drug tested anyone in this line of work, there wouldn’t be anyone to do the work.

I don’t do drugs, but when I was going into an office every day, it wasn’t uncommon to have a glass of whiskey on my desk.
It was always fun when somebody left/got fired and we had to clean out their desk...more often than not there was some kinda liquor bottle in one of the drawers.

When my place closed and I did my exit and closeout, oops, yeah there might've been a beer can or two stashed away. Oh well.

Thats the mills around here. Drug test if something dumb happened, but otherwise we dont wanna know:laughing:

Which is how it should be. I can go home an get black out drunk every night an not worry about a random. But smoke a bowl an OMG

There’s a pub/bar in my office. Used to be kept stocked before Covid and the switch to working from home.

Current company, previous location (changed locations about a year ago, things are handled much better at the new place) when I hired on (17 years ago), was upon hiring, upon accident/injury, and at least 1 “random” test per year, but could be once a week. I got tested about every 3 weeks, cause they knew I was clean, and it filled a box for corporate.

After about five years, they dropped the weed screening at hiring, cause large portions of potential new hires couldn’t pass a drug test, and they were desperate for a warm body.

About 2 years later, they dropped the random tests, cause too many employees were being let go for popping dirty.

I haven’t been tested now in about 10 years, and unless I have a time lost injury, or cause damage above $x threshold, I doubt I’ll ever be tested again.

The current pre employment drug test is only for 4-5 items (cocaine, meth, heroine, and a couple other I can’t remember). And, if you do test positive, they’ll still hire you, but put you on probation for 6 months, and usually “forget” to do any follow up tests.

Back when I did commercial tropical aquarium maintenance the boss asked me at interview if I could pass a drug test. I told him you’ll find Whiskey, Pot and probably Vicodin. I got hired:lmao:

Currently boss doesn’t give a fuck as long as I produce. But he knows I am no fun anymore and will only test positive for Advil and Coffee. Oh yea I’m the boss😔

Early 2000’s for a tech company, never since. Back in the 90’s in construction it was random a couple times a year.

Previous job in Aviation maintenance was a random about twice a year. I get it, but you can also be dangerous coming in hungover. That would change if there were a breathalyzer for weed.

Current job is a different story

Current employer doesn't care. Officially it's in their handbook that is required to hire and randoms.

Never had the pre-employment.

I cut my finger off, and a coworker dropped a skid steer bucket on his foot. Neither of us got tested. Consequently he's the same one I help out with his business as a side gig.

Pretty sure they're just too cheap to pay for it.

Previous employer I pissed off. Had to do one to hire, and had 7 yearly "randoms" in 5 years. They were not happy I stirred shit up with the state, but I sure wasn't going to give them a reason to fire me. :lmao:

One pre hiring test for me.
Another job, I broke my wrist on the job, no test. And at the same place, my big accident, dont think I was tested but I was pretty out of it for the first couple days...

Our yearly "random" test just happens to be on our birthday month every year. Any day that month, you choose.

It's saliva, nor urine. The longest that anything stays in the saliva is three days, some things are less.

So you have a whole year to plan out your 3 drug free days before your test, whenever those days will be convenient for you

In the trades you piss test before you can walk in the gate
after that, I am surprised that any of them could get that far in the first place

another place tested 'randomly' but luck of the draw always seemed to get the usual suspects and one non-used, just to keep it random you know
I was driving one guy up to the front office and he pulls out a piss cut from his coat pocket and askes me if I will fill it

I am there wondering where the hell do you get a piss cup?

When I worked doing Non-Destructive Testing in Louisiana, I got tested to start, got tested after a kid hit me while I was driving a company truck, and got tested every time they needed to do "random testing" since they knew that I've never done a drug. My co-workers were sure that they would never get picked. My boss asked me once which guys they shouldn't ever test and I said, "If I knew, I wouldn't tell you."

My wife, the NNP, has a DEA license because of some of the drugs she has to prescribe and won't even dream of doing anything to endanger her livelihood but her company won't test anybody at her level because they're afraid they'll lose someone at a time when it's incredibly hard to find enough people to cover the shifts.

Drove truck for 16 years so wizz quizzes were common. In December I started wrenching so no wiz quizzes anymore. I'll eat an edible or two or spark a bowl in the evenings these days.

I work at an underground coal mine, we get tested to hire, random and if you get hurt. We can also have to take a breathalyzer if you're suspected of being drunk. If you don't have a prescription, you can't have it in your system. I'm an electrician so if I fail one, I can lose my electrical card

Random.

Took one for job #1, stopped by job #2 to get a couple paychecks and surprise, random test there too, at the same place.

The lady at the piss test place said that's never happened before!

Doesn't bother me, never have taken drugs. I might have a 12 pack of beers over the course of 6 months.

Two golden swindles so far.

First time was working for the local auto auction, boss drove two of us to some clinic & split. We were instructed to go to separate rooms, strip, wrap the paper robe, grab the cup & head to the bathroom. Give back the pee sample to counter when done, head back to room to put back on clothes & be on your way. Dunno why but the Dr was standing there watching me get dressed (and the other guy claimed too). We told the coworkers what happened & it only happened to us. 🤨

Second time was at the manufacturing plant, was never tested (don't ask) but I left for awhile & returned... Then it was mandatory.

I had a gig that had DJs driving the yard trucks, one had to take a hair follicle test before operations. The company felt that hair samples testing was a reliable indicator-

Don’t recall if I had to for the current job that I started in 15.

At the nuke place I landed myself on a frequent flier list because of something I allegedly did, on my own time that I never ended up being convicted of.

Security needed to justify their job, I pissed for those fat cows at least 2 dozen times.

Almost nobody I know of tests anymore unless you are clearly jacked or have an accident.

.gov, random tests
Offshore, often. Shell actually did a hair test, only one i've ever had

Commercial construction trade contractor. We are Union and have a pre-hire drug screen policy. I also do a lot of school facility work so most of the guys are getting background checks ran also. I can do randoms also, but have only done that once for cause. Also as others have mentioned, they get tested if there's a workplace accident that requires medical treatment.

I don't have to reject someone if they fail the pre-hire and typically won't unless they seem like a complete pile of shit. We have had a few new hires in their early 20's decide they don't want the job when they hear about the drug screen.

I've never had to test personally, but when I was in the field the potential to have to test is one of the reasons I never used anything. I never wanted to miss work because of something simple and stupid.

Pre employment and randoms. If I damage the company vehicle. Straight to the piss test place. If I find a tank overflowing oil on the ground, it’s straight to the piss test place.

offer of compressor rescinded

never talk to the man

Kinda hard not to when I have to have a professional license with the state to do my job.

Employer was trying to pull a fast one, and was bribing state employees. I stirred up enough shit that 2 state employees suddenly resigned and were investigated for fraud. :lmao:
