All these job related threads got me to thinking...

I am an IT guy and was last drug tested in 2003 when hired at a 911 company to run their network. I worked for then for 15 years, then ended up working for a couple of .gov contractors, but was not tested there.

Just tested a month ago for an opp. No mention of being tested during the interview process… just “background check.”

I was surprised. So few tech companies test anymore. Last time was EMC. They have since dropped the requirement, from what I’ve been told.

Of course, they no longer make you “walk the coals” either.

Only tested when hired on, untill you fuck something up really bad.

At hire and subject to random but unless I crash something and/or get hurt, random is pretty unlikely. Do have to do DOT physical every couple years too.

I work commercial construction. Probably take about 4-5 per year. Not an issue for me, however, it would be nice to take an edible occasionally for back pain

Once only, upon permanent hire for corporate. Boss said "lay off the hard shit for a bit".
Don't do drugs so don't care even if they wanted to keep doing it. Meh.

For some places they should test regularly. Anytime a drugged up idiot could serious cause trouble they should be tested.

Last "whizz quiz" was in 1990 unless the lab at the doc's office is running drug tests without telling me... :flipoff2:

This is the first company I worked at since college where it's when hired and if you get hurt. Oilfield was pretty much clockwork I was getting at least twice a year unless it was real slow.

Regular-Hiring/Yearly/Random

I think it's dumb, but weed is legal here and doesn't do anything for me so no loss. Fewer potential workers out there means more money for me.

When I worked in the ER; random tested throughout the year (averaged once a year).

If a med went missing in a room (from a code): every employee who went into said room got tested.

Just when hired or if you get hurt on the job.

somebody was smoking weed in the bathrooms at work A few months ago. Still no tests, they are afraid half the place would pop positive.

Probably 15 years ago while running essentially the national 911 network I was in pretty good with the higher ups. I was part of a meeting where they discussed doing testing....this was in Boulder County CO. Someone made the comment that if they started random testing and subsequent firing they better have a contingency plan because Probably half or better of the call center folks smoked weed.

They never did testing and I never heard them talk about it again.

A couple here and there for new hire when working in pharmacies.

Last company when I first got my CDL and a random the next month. New job, the 3 of us with CDLs (2 bosses and me) are in a testing pool. The founder/owner apparently is the only one to be picked for randoms.

I've never touched any of that, so other than being a pain in the ass to drive into town while taking time out of my salaried day, I don't care.

Tested on hire 19 months ago (never a single test at my previous 22 year employer).
Expecting a random at any time. NBD for me, I don't partake.

When hired and "random", which pretty much means never.

Had one guy in a different shop who was highly suspicious, manager called in a test and the guy was gone, but never heard of he ever took the test

When hired and major injury or accident.

Them when I was hired: You need to take a drug test. Do you need a couple weeks before you go in?

Me: No, I’m good. I can go today.

Them: Are you sure? We can give you some time before you go if you need it.

Me: No, I’m good. I can go today.

Then a couple weeks later I get a call asking if I went because they didn’t get any results.

“We need you to go test again. Do you need a couple weeks before you go in?”

I'm not working now, but my last employer did pre-employment testing and then random.

Company had their own clinic. I went on a Monday for my annual hearing test, and then Tuesday morning got notified that I had to go back for the drug test. I gave them shit about it when I got there, "you couldn't have just done this yesterday?"

If one spoke up in a meeting, they'd usually get called in for a drug test within two weeks.

Worked in and around schools the last 25ish years. Always finger printed and background checks. Never been drug tested. But I also haven't had so much as a speeding ticket in 30 years either.

In the creative industry. If they drug tested anyone in this line of work, there wouldn’t be anyone to do the work.

I don’t do drugs, but when I was going into an office every day, it wasn’t uncommon to have a glass of whiskey on my desk.

Had to do a piss test before working as a lot guy at a Honda dealer in 2002.

My real job always had the threat of one, sort of, but I don't know anyone who actually got tested short of an accident or injury.

My feelings now, if testing is a condition of employment, fuck off.

I work commercial construction. Probably take about 4-5 per year. Not an issue for me, however, it would be nice to take an edible occasionally for back pain

I work commercial construction too, until next Wednesday. I've never taken a drug test. I've tested drugs at work though. Next Thursday I start at a civilian in support of military position. No test there either.

If you drug tested construction here you'd have no work force:laughing:

Same goes for CDL.

In fact, I have never heard of anyone being drug tested for any job that wasn't industrial construction, which basically means oil and gas related.
