Was $88 this morning.

anyone have a link to replacement clamshells. I need the yellow one, fell off my shelf and bent the shit out of it.
I can't find them any cheaper than you can buy that whole set.

Might reach out to the seller on amazon. In the Q&A on that one, someone asks if the clamshells are available separately and they seller said they were.

If you haven't seen the banner on their website, Harbor Freight has deals on their ICON boxes that were damaged in shipping: Scratch and Dent Sale - Harbor Freight Tools

If you want a roll cab, you pretty much have to haunt the site because they go quickly. The top boxes and overhead cabinets are fairly frequently available. The end cabinets a little less so.

They rate them as Excellent (minor scuffs), Great (minor scratches and dents), and Good (moderate scratches and dents) and some of them are missing items, but they're 30% to 45% off and they describe and photograph the damage. If I was in the market, I'd take 30% off for minor scuffs and would consider 45% off for moderate scratches and dents - a lot of the time it's on the back or sides anyway.

This is from a top chest at 45% off that I saw - damaged top corner, scuffs on top, and dented back panel:

Chances are that you won't even notice the top corner of a top chest in your shop, put down a rubber mat to cover the scuffs, and you'll never see the dented back panel.

But does the Vevor one have the same components as the Yukon one?

Yukon’s website doesn’t list the Sterling 10.25 or 10.5 rear end as a possible option their tool works on. They list the Extra Large clamshell as being 6”x6”x3” and the Vevor one only says 4.45”. I assume Vevor is a typo. A buddy has the Yukon puller so I’ll see if he will take measurements of the parts for his.

edit: this YouTube guy apparently owns it and is using the white cup on the sterling 10.5.

That's what I was wondering.

I see the Vevor one for sale a number of different places and every one of them lists the white one as 5.2" and both the black and yellow clamshell as 4.45" - yeah, doesn't sound right.

Unfortunately, the Yukon doesn't list the sizes for comparison.

This one looks like the Vevor (same colors), but has a list of all the differentials that it will work on but only lists the clamshells as small, large, and extra large - yet it pretty much includes everything under the sun: Rigid Axle Differential Bearing Puller Tool - Includes All Clamshell Sizes

It would be nice if they broke these lists down with "the small clamshell does these differentials, the large does these differentials, and the extra large does these differentials," but I guess that become self evident if you have all three and you just pick the appropriate one that fits the differential you're working with.

I'm sort of going to guess those are the three sizes you need and everyone is selling basically the same tool - or you'd see other sizes or sets with four or five clamshells.

I have the stock 10.25 carrier in a box with the bearings on it so I can check when mine shows up.

Maybe I need an official “clamshell bearing puller” thread started.

edit: the official thread could list “I used the yellow one for a Dana 70 and sterling 10.25.
I tried looking up the outside diameter of a sterling carrier bearing (timken 469) but timken didn’t have the outside diameter. I don’t deel like digging out the stock carrier right now just to measure it.

I am off work today and actually had to pull out my Yukon version that I've had forever so that a friend could borrow it for a Dana 35 he's fixing for his dad (save the speeches).

Anyways, I also have a pair of 469 bearings in the cabinet, so decided to take some pics for you guys to save a little digging. It appears to be plenty of room to fit a bearing and the race needed for the puller, actually more than sufficient room.

I don't know how they can mfg and sell that thing for the price. The piece of material needed to machine the shells from would cost half that these days. I understand its scale based and import labor but sheesh. I hope that the shells are actually decent steel. I've not managed to damage this Yukon one and have done about 20 axles with it over the past 8 or 10 years.

Thats because the two shells that are same OD use the same retaining collar sleeve but the insides are machined different IDs and chamfers.

I actually machined a larger bearing puller yet for a friend a few years ago and he used it for his puller, the top ID matched the puller plates, but then the bottom was a much larger bell; we even had to make a washer plate so that the bearing would rest on the race face and not the journal and we made and adapter ring so the slug rod wouldn't just fall through the diff. It was some big Merritor or Rockwell he was repairing for a swamp buggy truck. In the world of up to "1 Ton" axles, these 3 shells work well it seems.
