I started on this thread:

But then after feedback and other information I ended up looking for a 10K wood deck.

Found this one:

Talked to the sales guy and was in a quandry between this one and an 18'.

Ended up with that trailer, a spare tire, Spare tire mount, and all fees etc for $5500.

In NC you pay taxes to the DMV so that will add 3% ($165) plus whatever other stupid shit they can find to tax/fee/fuck me on,

The only thing I don't like about this trailer is the method they used to mount the ramps as it sticks out (in my opinion) too far. This is because they wanted to make a single channel to hold both ramps as it would be cheaper to make. I asked if mods to the ramp hanger would void the warranty and was assured that it would only affect the hanger and not the whole trailer as long as I didn't cut into the frame. So I will mod that eventually.

Knowing I was gonna get a trailer I already ordered new hold down straps:

and

So, as to add-ons. Looking at a winch, a tool box, and re-wiring as I saw the scotch-loks :barf::barf::barf:.

What other add-ons would you add?

If this is what you bought triangulate that front rail so you don't bend it the first time you put a load binder on it or bump it with a tire.

Tongue box, HF rubber chalks, spare tire with under deck winch up mount, good straps and extra straps, gloves.
I also put removable jack mounts on the rear so I could park a loaded trailer and I have a synthetic line on my winch, so I have extra protective sheathing for it. Back up light.

Agreed with everything listed here except with adding the rear jack mounts... already has the rear stabilizer/stands on it so it seems redundant.

What size winch? 5K, 9k?

I did a smittybuilt 9k because it was cheap. And a cheap winch plate I welded to the front. You’ll need a decent battery to go with it.
I rebuilt an old trailer and used this junction box:

With the location of that jack/handle, watch your tailgate when you lower it…

lol... I was looking at this one for the wiring:

Anyone seen a wiring kit for the rest of the trailer... 16-18ga in the appropriate colors? And not CCA pllease.
I put one of those on my dad's little trailer. I would spend the extra $15 or $20 on a curt as those cheapies are kind of a bitch to push in and make contact.

Also it's a new trailer, run the stock shit until it has problems. If you aren't running your trailer hard the shitty wiring will last a long time. When its time for a wiring harness I would buy an OEM one from Tow master or Felling as they have really nice wiring.

Get padlocks for your ramps, get a 9k winch, snatch block, a deep cycle battery, a solar charger, wireless remote, and keep the wired remote for redundancy, flip down jack, mount the spare underneath the passenger side on a crank down winch with a lugnut welded to it (same size as trailer) ideally put a toolbox or expanded metal in the tongue for chains and binders.

That stuff it's all cheaper than you think, and it's way nicer to have all the trailer stuff with the trailer instead of in the bed of the truck, or having to hunt it down

X100. Every trailer needs its own stuff. I order different colored ratchet straps and different chain hooks so stuff doesn’t get mixed up between different trucks and trailers. Also every trailer needs a lug wrench and a jack, or ramp. Some way to change tires.

Don't put the toolbox or winch on the deck, I paid for the full deck, I use the whole deck:laughing:

In theory recessed drop in boxes are nice, but it never would work for me, I'd need into them with a dead truck on the trailer. Some people might only haul their crawler or their corvette and live in a perfect world where they get their 4 perfect length straps out of the box, close the lid, drive their toy on, hook up the straps and drive to their destination, disassembly is reverse of assembly, put things away nicely.

That's not the world I live in, and I would want that shit in the tongue box when things inevitably go south:laughing:

We put 8’ contractor bed boxes infront on the tongue. Lots of room for things.

Mine's built in, I can access it with the deck full and since it's flush top it doubles as extra deck space if needed.

I've debated putting cheap shocks on my trailer, I figure it can't hurt. In my head it'll help with how it rides unloaded, maybe help with tire life too. Dunno if it'll save any money (considering I end up changing trailer tires due to age not tread condition) so I never did it.

Best thing I did for my car hauler was install shocks. Rides much better loaded and I loaded. I won’t have a dual axle trailer with out them
Got any models to share?
I'm about to put new axles on mine so it would be a good time to add shocks.

Yeah what did you run? Cheap Monroe Gasmatics in whatever length fit? Or were you shooting for something specific?
In my head, rear Ford F-series or front Chevy K-series are both eye-to-eye and therefore easy to adapt, but I don't know if you should be shooting for a specific valving (since loaded/unloaded is radically different) or if you just say fuck it and run whatever, because something is better than nothing.

start here.... there's a link in this post to the lower mounts I eventually chose.

Interesting, but this looks like it will require super short shocks as the area under the deck is not tall.

Also, how does one determine shock values or generic model numbers?

i am very shock stupid on trailers so any info is good info.

Thanks!

Space is definitely limited. That's why I went with these lowers... plenty of adjustability. Top mount is just shy of the floor board. Can't comment on valving - I just bought the cheapest shocks I could find on the interwebs... I think they were for a GM pickup or something.

Shocks were always on my list as well, but I was hoping to find some decent take off shocks off something and put them on, then I forgot about it....
