What's new

So I like to smoke inside

Never smoked, but this is my night stand drawer :homer:

15% higher rate of infection with smokers.
My Orthopedic surgeon refused to replace my hip unless I quit smoking 30 days before surgery and swore to stay nicotine free for 90 days after! Quitting was fairly easy when incentivized with being able to walk. It’s been 60 days since I’ve had one and the craving isn’t that bad.

I never smoked inside the house because it does stink!

Yep it's for real. Some surgeons say the risk of infection is 10 times that of a non smoker.

I used to rot gut Copenhagen fer years. Been chewing smokey mountain, tobacco and nicotine free, fer 3 years now.
Smoke villiger brantiff cigarellos a few times a week. A full cigar is almost to much fer me these days, tobacco sickness is real.

Firstly, congratulations. It's not an easy task.

Do you put any effort into your health? If you do that (at least for me) you have more to lose and don't want to blow it.
I have been putting more effort into my health lately. The older I feel, the more I try to eat Healthy, exercise etc.
I used to mountain bike a lot, most weekends, and sometimes after work. Smoke a bowl, load the bike on the car. Unload bike, smoke a bowl, ride a bit, smoke a bowl, eat some jerky. Ride more, get back to car, relax with a bowl, then drive home to eat a nice meal and smoke a bowl. Then I quit smoking pot. To stressful to fake tests, not worth losing employment over, and I'm already stupid enough. Once I quit that, I have touched the bike once every 2 years or so. Now my only everyday vice is eating.

Why? Is your blood thinner or something when you smoke?
I see Trampas talking about risk of infection. Is that the reason the doctor told you?

That's the only reason i know of. Your blood isn't thinner, it's the frequent convulsion of vessels caused by nicotine (other drugs, chemicals could also contribute) that cannot be controlled which increases the risk.

This, nicotine restricts blood flow and increases the risk of infection!

All the chain smokers I know are lazy pieces of shit.
I’ve got a couple buddies that smoke occasionally, while drinking, etc. always respectful, etc.

My FIL fired us his Camry for my daughter. He’s a closet smoker. Only smokes in the car, brushes his teeth after, wears cologne, etc. He hotboxed in the Camry though. That was the grossest shit I’ve ever cleaned up. Absolutely disgusting.

Smoke if you want, but don’t deny that you’re fucking disgusting.

There are different kinds of infections, though.
Most of us get common minor ones around scrapes and cuts.
There are the others, more serious, that cause red streaking going toward lymph nodes or heart.
Even worse, you have the type that are sepsis.

When you guys are talking about infections, which type are you or the doctors referring to?

In my case, 1% of hip replacements have problems with the implants causing infections in the bone. This requires surgery to remove the implants and treat the infection. Once you’re in the clear you get a 3rd surgery to reinstall another hip.
