What's new

Snowball

I drove to Houston and back and didn't see another 2nd gen Dodge.
Because they're trash that all got crushed 10yr ago. :flipoff2:

There's a reason you still see plenty of OBS F-series and GMT400s, and even the occasional F-superduty or 3500HD still at work but you never see a Dodge of the era unless it's some old man's toy.

Been driving it around, locally as a parts getter. The camper is awesome for loading up parts and forgetting about them.

Been chasing a shimmy. Best I can figure is the panhard bar. Everything else is either new or tight. $5-600 for a kit is just 'tarded. Looking at it, I dont know how the giant TRE style ever kept it in place.

Anyone run a 3rd gen bar? Suggestions on best prefab bracket? I've ran stock 3rd gens over 200k, so I dont see a problem.

I run a 3rd gen bar, but bought from PIG! - IE, Synergy.

Odd... if the gussets are needed, why aren't there to begin with. If they're not. Why offer them.

Did you utilize the gussets?
I didn't, not used for a 2001.

They're listed as optional. They also weld to the frame and the bracket. So have to be positioned correctly.

I ran the 3rd gen track on my old '97, I would recommend it. My truck had a mild lift (basically leveled). I used one off a Power Wagon; they're slightly longer than the standard ones and it helped compensate to keep the axle centered.

Manual seat is just a hair too tall, has me looking through the top 3rd of the windshield. I'm really slouching to get comfortable.

For $50 I pulled it, hoping electric will drop it down, or I'll modify the mounts.

I haven't drove it in 6 months. Noticed over the winter the heater core was leaking. Then the A/C comp is weak. Haven't found the desire to strip the interior and risk breaking a pristine '96 dash.

Good news, it fired right off this morning. Drove it around and back in the pole barn.

was driving it again in the spring/early summer. Put a shutoff valve on the heater core line to avoid that problem. Oil pressure sending unit failed, turned into the exxon valdez. The rear trans seal would swell up if i drove it weekly, but joined in on with the oil and I had a nice black and red puddle underneath. I was already having trouble with TC drain back and it would take a few to build pressure before I could move after sitting. So its been sitting for a few months. Haven't decided which direction to go... spend $4k for a trans rebuild or cannibalize my other 24V for the NV4500. Has some other 30 year old issues and it'll be an upcoming project. Love the truck and will never sell it.

electric seat offers no advantage to being lower, so i sold it.

Ever get it buffed?

Nope. Was actually looking at it and noticed the passenger cab side and bed side were repainted. Since i know the original owner i asked and he had no idea. His son (who i went to school with) had no recollection either. He bought it out of Idaho because it was cheaper than anything he could find in Texas at the time. must've been damaged in transport to dealer... and know i now why it was repainted and cheaper.

Put it on the 2 post and the rear axle bounces. tires/wheels are true on the machine. Brake drums are waayyy out of round causing my shimmy. Have a disc D70 to rebuild or the D80 out of the nv4500 truck. sad part is the nv4500 truck runs and drives beautifully, the sheet metal is wasted.

Sounds like a NV4500\D80 swap party happening soon vs rebuild of the D70 and slushbox

I have a 'built' 48RE in my '07. That truck pulled 20k+ lbs for the past 40k miles, and was abused before that for the first 200k.I smoked the 2nd band grossing 30k through the hill country (6* road) . I'm more than happy with a good slushbox. I just romanticize about banging gears as my old NV5600 truck is sitting next to it :homer: im flush with trucks and slim on time.
