Shopping for my first 1911, sub $1000.

Who likes what?

I don’t buy shiny and pretty for looks, just functional for me across the board.

Have an XD-9 in 9mm, want an all-metal in .45 next.

I want it to be something I can also upgrade as my skills improve, just got into handguns a couple years ago.

Just bought a Buckmark for cheap shooting and skills upkeep, so this will be a January purchase due to CA.

This Springfield had good reviews, $700 ish.

Thanks!

Love my springer loaded.
Most of the second tier offerings are a good idea.

Shit even my ria officer model shoots well.

Friend has a Garrison. It feels like the Colt my Dad brought back from Korea. Shoots better than the Colt because it's not beat to shit.

I've been considering buying one, but I already have the Colt and a Kimber CDP II. The Kimber is my favorite carry gun.

Same purchase is on my bucket list . I’m cheap though I think I would give RIA a chance for a few hundred less if buying new and I’ve seen Wilson Combats come up for that kind of money used that cost several times that new a few times . I would buy cheap and modify if or go used and get something high end .

You can get a variety of Colts under 1k. I would get a Colt first.

Going to throw out a couple of non 1911 suggestions that aren't 112 year old designs.

Sig p220, much better than a 1911, you can actually carry one without it being a boat anchor on your belt. Double single action with a decocker. No stupid grip safety.
Cz97, gets you 10 rounds of 45, double single action some have a decocker, some have safety.

Not sure if either is on the California roster.
May even be able to get a legion p220 in budget.

If you are still dead set on a 1911 I would look at Dan wesson.

I have a couple Kimbers the LW models go for sub 700 pretty often. I have a 45 and a 9. Both have been great so far. The 9 has become my favorite to punch steel and paper cheap.

Not sure yet, that’s why I’m here. Won’t be carrying it for now. Probably 5” .

I prefer the 4" but nothing wrong with the 5".

Honestly in that price range, pick something that has sights that you like and go have a ball. Dont overthink it.

1911's are funny. I dont think there is a gun out there that brings out the snobs or the "meh that shits outdated", like a 1911 does :lmao:

have been a few dan wesson, colt and les baer's on gun broker in the $900-$1200....

My dad is currently trying to get Great Uncle Bobs 1911 back. A neighbor had to keep them hidden, it’s in its original cardboard box with a journal from every day, including details from its time at the Battle of the Bulge. Can’t wait to see it, and Grandpas WW1 Navy Nickel pistol.

Remington R1.

they more you spend the less you have for ammo. You won’t need an ambidextrous safety, or flared magwell or night sights on it. Maybe you want the ‘speed bump’ on the beaver tail or maybe you hate it. Just wak into a store and pick one you like. Ruger, Kimber, S&W, Remington, Colt, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk/force, Springfield. They’re 80% the same.

A 2011 would be cooler.

Wilson is 80% the same.....
Perhaps but that 20% is YUGE:flipoff2:

Weren't the 2011's furnished with plastic part in fire control?

Remington R1.

They cant even build a decent bolt gun

they more you spend the less you have for ammo.

horrible way of thinking.

You won’t need an ambidextrous safety, or flared magwell or night sights on it.

I will never understand ambidextrous safety's as nobody cares about left handed people. night sights are kinda pointless IMO, flared magwell looks cool though,:grinpimp:

A 2011 would be cooler.

Agreed. They dont feel as good as a 1911, but damn close:smokin:
