NPR fact check says "False" she definitely identifies as black.

He is putting her on the defense. This isn't turning anyone off when she has to jump through hoops to explain why she played the Indian card until it was no longer profitable for her. Everyone has to go through her family history to figure out she is only about 1/8 black, and the she has Irish ancestors that owned slaves. She had problems with Blacks, (men especially) thinking she is inauthentic even before Trump said anything. Doing this takes away her from ability to pound him with the race card, which is one of her biggest attacks. This was a planned soundbite, not an off the cuff stupid remark.

If the left is pissed off and running around with their hair on fire because of a Trump comment, It's pretty amazing. They are pissed about this comment so yea, I like it. Nothing deranged about that. Not blind following either. Trump planned this, his campaign was ready to back it up, and he doubled down on it at the rally he had that night. He is getting precisely the intended response too. Campaigns are snapshots and soundbites, Trump is winning if they are screaming about one of his soundbites, because they are not making their own.

There are plenty of things that Trump could say that I wouldn't defend and sometimes his style of relaying it is clunky. This isn't one of them. He was on point at that interview.

This is what some of y'all don't get that I'm trying to drive home to you. Y'all are already voting for him. Hell, I'm already voting for him. Stuff that appeals to his most fervent supporters largely repel moderate voters and energizes Democrat voters. These are the two things Trump can't afford to do. His supporters are gonna come out and vote for him. He just needs some of the swing vote to fall his way and not give the Democrats ammo to energize their base to come out in droves to vote against him. The stuff that excites his base actually works against him electorally.

I just want him to win because Kamala and the Democrats suck. I'm not a Trump fan. That's why I just roll my eyes and say "Yeah, this motherfucker could definitely blow a big fourth quarter lead." when he starts throwing these verbal pick sixes to the Democrats.

It's the "center" that Trump needs to win, and comments like this are not doing him favors. The general election will be Trump v. Harris v. the Couch. To date the Couch is one hell of an opponent. Even assuming Trump gets a few from the "black vote" to consider defecting, comments like these aren't going to motivate those people run to the polls to pull that lever.

Imagine being gifted a brand new car, but it has the stars and bars emblazoned on the hood. Some folks are gonna love that, but a lot of folks would think twice about bringing it home.

"You won't have to vote in a few years" "She's black now?" "I'm just like a black person, I like shoes and I'm a felon!" aren't going to be helpful. They won't be helpful fundraising, and they won't be helpful getting people to the polls. It allows Harris to keep Trump on defense, and each day in the media is critical running up to November.

The couch benefits Trump. His base is always super energized to come out for him. With Biden, the Dems had a huge energy deficit. Kamala has given them a big temporary boost but she has a nice pop when she first announced her primary campaign and then face planted when she actually had to campaign giving interviews and debating. She can deliver a stump speech reasonably well. But she struggles mightily when it's unscripted. It's just a matter of time before a disastrous interview or an idiotic word salad gets spewed. The energy will go out of this balloon. Trump just can't afford to feed it.

When your opponent is beating themselves, let them. He actually did that in the Biden debate, with only a sourpuss facial expression, it seems like in the last go-round he would have pounced on that, but he didn't need to this time. The Trump Harris debate is going to be epic.

Does it though?

In 2020, when Trump lost, he lost to "a human being with a pulse that wasn't Bernie Sanders". That was it-- that was the entire criteria. Now, flaws and all, the dems have a candidate that isn't just "not Trump". Everyone who despises Trump is going to vote again, and now the Couch voters who didn't hate Trump might have a reason to go vote. Time will tell if Kamala keeps those folks energized.

Like you said, the Dems previously were in trouble of "the Couch" based on the overall perception of the economy and crime. I could see why Biden voters might have just shrugged and not bothered. But SCOTUS has put abortion on the ballot as well, so there are a litany of federal, state, and local issues that are going to bring a lot of folks to the polls. A lot of boomers have died, and lot of Gen Z have entered the voting pool.

Trump blew a chance to scrounge up black votes he needs by going with Vance. He, to quote common parlance, should've picked a "DEI hire". Kamala is fundraising off the charts. The RNC is over, and the DNC is coming up. A party that had a deflated balloon of a president for 4 years all of a sudden has something to be excited about. The fed is, by most accounts, going to drop interest rates in September. The economy has more or less achieved a "soft landing".

Make no mistake, Trump is in serious, serious trouble.
 
Trump's Instagram and I assume Twitter feed has been attacking Kamala directly on issues since at least yesterday :smokin:
 
Everyone knows who Trump is by now and knows if they are going to vote for him or not. The only middle grounders jumping to the Trump side now are the never Trumpers that don't want to attach themselves to such a stupid human as Harris because they had about as much embarrassment as one could take in a lifetime swinging on the potatoheads nut sack...

You don't think that the audience that was cheering for him at the black journalists convention In Chicago might of been on the other side and had their minds changed. Ridicule is a powerful weapon, he just won a battle of insults. He is going to hostile media places with hostile audiences and mopping the floor with their hosts. He isn't going in there to solidify his base, he is going there to flip theirs. It's like Kamala going in front of the NRA and actually getting a bunch of gun supporters to cheer for her, except that won't happen.

You're wrong, they CAN be convinced to vote for him, or at the very least, not vote for her.

Yes, the couch benefits Trump. Trump lost because of super high voter turnout. He motivated a ton of people to show up for him and he motivated a ton of people to show up against him. Biden was gonna lose in a landslide because a bunch of would be Dem voters were gonna stay on the couch. Nothing much has changed with the Trump vote since Biden dropped out. They're just planning to actually show up for Kamala... for now anyway.

The center is a myth, Ain't nobody that is center and telling the truth about it. There is however a large portion that tunes out politics completely unless something breaks through their feed that actually interests them. Again that's where Soundbites and snapshots come into play, and Trump is doing exactly that.

Meh. But is he bringing out voters for him? I agree that he needs to be an attack dog when it's beneficial to him winning. I also think he does need to think about the words coming out of his mouth and how they get spun. I'm seriously not sure he can. He's had free range in his business for so many years, im not sure he can be told what to do. Not that that's a bad thing, but you can't just run your mouth to the general public, like you can to your employees!
