Scrap

Lol I just did the math in my head on all my big shit. Came up to over 900tons of iron :lmao:. It goes up to $400/ton it will be worth more in scrap that the purchase price for some items.

Pulling our rotor and scrapping it in the next few days as part of the power uprate. 585 tons, 32 rotor poles @ 12,000 lbs each. I don't know what the junk yards would pay for copper like that, but it doesn't matter as it will just go to corporates bank account.

That’s like 1.1 million in copper scrap. Holy fuck. If the engineers were smart they would get ahold of the foundry and sell it to the direct. Take one middle man out of the loop.

384,000 lbs of copper will get some attention.

I have a friend that was operations manager at one of our large export scrap yards
All the copper bales had to be stored inside because of thieves,

somehow they came down the train tracks, broke a lock and stole two bales of copper last time

how do you casually drove around with two copper bales in the back of your truck?

and where do you sell it unless the yard you sell it to is in on it.

There was an organized thing here, semis going directly to the mine to pick up loads of fresh copper, fake paperwork, I heard they had somebody inside, something like 200k a load, they got caught, but it was still hush hush, im thinking it was bigger than they let on

Also they had a deal going for a while where truckers needed to have enough fuel to not stop for 200 something miles so they didn't get jacked

Also, I need to check my local places, I got 160t last week, but it was just cleanup after a remodel 1200lbs or something

Our local scrap yard is offering 75-80 per ton.

I've been cleaning the yard in the past few years they werent paying so nothing to haul in now that they are paying.

A few years ago some meth heads got caught locally stealing rolls of copper wire in the middle of the night. The had some mid 90's shit box sedan and they just threw the rolls on the roof and were driving down the street.

There's a chance I went to high-school with them.

I started cleaning up the yard when it went from $5 ton up to $40 ton. Now we're at $150 ton and not much left to scrap. But, I do have an Exploder I want to tear in half this week.

Does that link work? It has their current prices on it.

The last time scrap went up like this my friend almost cleaned that yard out of money. He hauled in over 120,000 in scrap in 3 days. It was funny the yard was so full they told him to stop

$260 a ton here but it does jump up & down to .08¢ - .10¢ lb-

Edit: props to the big club movers :usa:
