What's new

Random stuff you made.

I was trying to clean the corrosion out of the barrel of the maglite in the background of the picture.
AA batteries randomly leaking & ruining a half-dozen Mini Maglites over the years :mad3: is one of the main reasons I got a rechargeable flashlight w/ a 18650 battery. I now have 4 Nitecore MH12GTS lights (work, home shop, nightstand, kitchen utility) & got my wife 1 of the same for a total of 5 :emb:

He has complained to Duracell about leaking batteries before and got replacement flashlights out of the deal.

I used to be hardcore about Duracell after a few Energizer explosions, then Energizer Industrial fan after a couple Duracell 'splodeys, then Duracell Ultra fanboi after a few Ener-dustrials shit the bed, then "fawk alkaline batteries in my flashlights" after the Ultra Dur-assholes let me down. I worry about all my meters & crap w/ alkaline batts, and try to store 'em w/o batts installed; but all my flashlights are good to go

Proponent of cheap led flashlights by the bunch. Battery pops, gets lost, drop it from height, whatever, go grab another one and continue the march. Never felt the need to bitch and whine on the internets about how this battery manufacturer or that one did me wrong.

Does this give you cold sweats?

I didn't bitch about it, I fixed the problem. Fuck cheap lights, knives, and shoes - I use good shit & don't lose it.

No, not at all. I stock approximately 2 dozen Duracell AAs & use ~8 per month, just not in flashlights because I've found a far better solution (5 lumen levels, long run time, & rechargeable). If you stop by & need to borrow a flashlight, I'll dig out an old 4D Maglite for you :flipoff2:

I’m slowly weeding out the streamlight stingers.. good lights, but too expensive to replace.. they usually put up a good fight tho.

I prefer a smaller body nowadays.

Au Contrair, monsieur. There is clearly a ":mad3:" emoji in your post.
Yeah, no shit :homer: I was conveying the ire I felt back when batteries killed my flashlights, immediately before I engaged in preventive action rather than bitching about it. Show me where I whined about shitty premium alkaline batteries, or go back to playing with your Walmart shiney-maker :flipoff2:

Anyone devised an easy way to drill / core the junk Duracell’s out of a D cell lite? I hate to throw them away , but the new led, rechargeable stuff is way better to use. M92- you have to have devised something if your having to brush the bore , the batteries had to have been stuck ? Thanks in advance

I guess you could drill out the batts.. treat it like broken bolt, gonna make a mess.
Last one I had, I beat on it until I decided I’d had enough, and just saved all the parts I could. I looked at it as an opportunity to buy a new flashlight.

2D? 3D? Pay the ride and I’ll send you parts.. color may vary.

Drill a hole in the middle of the battery, screw in a lag bolt, then put it in a pipe vise and pull on the bolt with a slide hammer?

Disassemble the flashlight. Soak it with penetrating oil. Drill a hole through the battery and install a piece of all thread through the hole with a washer a little smaller than the battery on the reflector side of the light. On the other side install a washer (and possibly a cushion) bigger than the tube and install a nut.

This should pull the battery out. Be careful not to damage the tube.

I whipped up this image, so technically it is a random stuff I made.

Made iron acetate for the first time. Tore up a new pad of 0000 steel wool & put it in a Ragu jar with white vinegar.

Going to fake "aging" on new pine.
Will brush w/ brewed black tea to add tannic acid (pine is low on tannins) and let dry first.
The iron acetate reacts with the tannins to darken the wood & fake aging / weathering.
"Weathered wood stain" on a test piece told me I wouldn't be happy with it. Hope this kicks ass.

It'll be the base for 7 pony shoes nailed flat in a horizontal row oriented like "U" & bent out on 1 side to hold coffee cups.
