What's new

Random stuff you made.

What does that chain move back and forth?

In this pic you can see the 3/16 cable, we'll see how long it lasts. Might have to find some little linked chain. That cable is about twice as big as what it needs to be. If the eyes has swivels it would work a lot better, the cable gets a lot of twist in wrapping at that angle. I need to see about half twisting but when you pull it off the stud it tries to unravel at high speed.

or ditch the chain all together and wrap both cables around the one drum
leave the rear rod in there to act as a pulley to get the cable to the back of the rack
I thought about something like that but I figured if something like that goes wrong in the middle of a cook you got problems...
This may have problems too I don't know.

I've used 1/4 ton lever hoist chain on stuff, like replacing the winch rope on truck snowplow winches. The stuff lasts 100 times longer than metal or syn winch rope or that boat winch nylon webbing.

It's nice, small, strong chain.

That's what I had in mind, those little hours getted trash all the time in this line of work, ill keep an eye out for one to harvest some chain.

Sprinkler controller died a few years ago, I could get it to run a manual cycle until I couldn't. Since I only have one zone I didn't see a need to buy another controller.
I used one of my smart wall switches I keep around and made a quick bezel. Gutted the box and wired the 24v ac transformer to the output of the smart switch. Now I can just get Alexa to run the sprinkler or I can just open the cover and press the button, each press starts a 15 minute (adjustable) timer.
I forgot to get installed pic but just imagine a bunch of wires and wago lever nuts.

Finished the shooting target I have been working on. Initially, I added a square hole in each target for a carriage bolt. My thinking is it would give you a point of aim vs. a 8" round target. I decided to try something, and printed inserts that will press into the square hole. The five target star spins on two oilite bushings. The two 3 target stars spin, as well as the the connecting bar. Should be a bunch of fun. AAANNNDDD it fits into the hitch on my car so it can be portable.

17 targets, a full glock mag will take em down if you don't miss. Ha

i finally tossed the 2 or 3 hubs i left kicking around for some "future" project like that. cool use of one

Decided I could buy a cheap shitty one for $30 if I ever thought of a use

Built this for sanding and polishing but it works for dumb interrupted cuts too.

This is why I was asking about bigger grinding wheels in the SV Seeker thread.

Built some doors from scratch for our new to us Hyster 36,000lb forklift.
Put this here instead of build thread because this is something I don't care to do again.

Came to us without doors or windows, being here in Michigan that was not going to work out. So I bought the front and rear glass from Hyster. The doors were $7500ea plus hardware. So I decided to build some inhouse. We started by making a frame from 3/4" tubing.

Our first attempt we tried to graft in some used Pete 389 door, w/power windows. After we removed the Rust from cab.

Then I found these windows at a local auction house. These are the glass door/window at the back of a school bus. they came with window latch and gas strut for opening. I paid $30 for a set of 5, so now we have replacements for when they get broken.

Went ahead and used the door latch mechanism from the 389 Pete. Also built a fiberglass enclosure for the latch. And built a boxed in attachment for the latch pin.

Surface finish was way better than it should have been for a grinding wheel bouncing off a far from straight cut.

I think I'm going to be very satisfied with the results I get when using this "properly"

Nice score on those windows!

Glad I don't live close to deals like that, I'd have the living room full.

A few years ago I was in that situation. Me and a couple of other guys in the office were buying weekly from the auction. We now have an intervention group to keep an eye on each other.

GovPlanet had a bunch of legit ship doors - like big steel doors with multi point latching systems and big bronze handwheels in the middle to operate them. It's a damn good thing I got distracted and forgot to bid on them. I have no clue what I was going to do with them, but I obviously needed them.

Finally got around to finishing my latest kart lifter, gonna send out to powder coat next week.

That’s pimp :grinpimp: A buddy & I bought a setup 20ish years ago, cause it was for sale & we didn’t have one. Dirt track, Methanol burning B&S powdered. 2 chassis, 4 engines on a double decker trailer. We didn’t have a clue what we were doing when we started. Had a friggin ball running small localish dirt tracks. That’s a fun bunch to play with
