Railway strike coming 9/12

Predictably Biden is taking the credit for averting the strike.
Reminds me of a cartoon I saw many years ago, Lincoln is sitting up in bed, all around the bed are pile of whiskey bottles, he is looking blurry eyed towards, this guy and he is saying "I freed WHO?" That's the picture I see in my mind with Brandon claiming credit for something

I thought the caption was "I freed the fucking whats?"

Could have been, it was a long time ago. One of the many pictures I could find copies of . Like the two border guards standing at the pass as Hanibal comes at them with his elephants in the front, the guards are armed with spears, one is saying "You tell him he can't cross"

Too far; this administration will probably open up the borders more and invite workers from Mexico. Then give them free healthcare, subsidized housing, and free college education to their children. And we’ll foot the bill.
Meh, they already do have workers that come from there and Canada...compliments of NAFTA (including the tRump modified version). I see CP (Canadian Pacific) and FerroMexicano (Federalised Mexican) engines on the E-W BNSF line thru Missoula all the time and have since moving up here from Bozeman in 2010.

new contracts provide rail employees with a 24% wave increase during the five-year period (2020-2024), including a payout upon ratification on average of $11K per employee.
what is a wave increase? Never heard that before.

And along the lines of wth area, why is the POTUS involved with this at all. Mis-use of influence much?

I didn't write the story I just copied and pasted rather than just the link because so many can't be troubled to follow the link. Therefore I am not responsible for any typos or misinformation.
I do find it funny you read the whole story and that was the only thing that stood out to you!

Potus is involved just guessing here because it is deemed a national security issue, plus he wants his party to win in November so he has to keep the cheap Chinese made goods flowwing

The wave increase? Cause that is the only thing from the article that I don't know what it is? Did I say you wrote it? I am aware it's a cut and paste, I was asking what it was.

The second comment had nothing to do with your article, hence the wth portion.

I believe he can intervene according to the RLA, one of the irate union slugs fact check me on that:flipoff2:

Yeah that’s a crazy way to do it

Friend of mine works for a RR and he is required to have a two hour response time and no set work schedule .
He sits at home for days waiting and They finally call and he has to be there in two hours .
F that noise .

Do they just decide randomly to put together a train and send it out ?
Or do they plan it and schedule it days or weeks ahead of time so it doesn’t collide with other trains on the tracks ?

And if they plan it days ahead of time , can’t they just schedule the workers at the same time ?

It’s how the Teamster represented LTL companies operate too at the bottom of the seniority board. No decent driver will stick around through the BS to build seniority when the non-union companies pay more and have a better work/life balance right away.

My brother in law is an engineer for union Pacific and he said he doesn't think this is over just yet. Take that for what it is worth.

Might not be

I wish the trucks would strike .
They wouldn’t have to do it nationwide just certain congressional districts is some DC dipshit is wanting to raise taxes or whatever

But they didn’t strike when commiefornia banned trucks older than 2004 , so they never will .

Sure it wasn't this? :flipoff2:

They have quite a few drawbridges that wouldn’t have operators. That would be interesting. I do contract work on one of them.

That's the point. The union wants the useless scummy dirtbags because they make the best union members because they need the union and will support it's continued existence and gladly pay dues. Good workers don't need the union.

I'm sure my brother's neighbor is heartbroken to hear they're offering back pay in the settlement. He's an engineer on the line between here and the Pacific Port along the Columbia. The dude used to flap incessantly about how everyone should work for the railroad, haven't heard a peep from him about it in a few years.

I don't know what they get paid but the dude must make bank, he has well over 100 ARs and keeps building more, pretty sure it's an addiction now.

Friday 'Toon: Trains, Pains, and Biden's Reveal

RAIL-STRIKE-1110x833.jpg

Joe Biden and his White House took another undeserved victory lap on Thursday when negotiators for 13 railroad unions and the largest freight rail carriers reached a labor agreement and avoided a strike. Politico didn’t miss its chance to leg-hump Joe’s leg when it claimed Biden “interceded” to bring the parties to terms. No, he didn’t. According to a union source who spoke to RedState, Biden simply suggested that the parties both “wanted something” so…sign an agreement. Since Biden has the personality and personal charm of jellyfish there is no chance that negotiators were swayed by anything Biden said. But union hacks praised Biden because Joe is “their man.” In fact, the terms agreed to are pretty close to the recommendations of the Presidential Emergency Board which was convened pursuant to the Railway Labor Act enacted in 1926. The board made its recommendations in July and the parties have been negotiating since. All Biden did was sign the order to authorize the Board.

In point of fact, on Wednesday, there wasn’t a lot left to haggle over — mostly the disagreement was over sick day leave. The unions have been out-of-contract since 2019, so if anyone thinks that the unions and freight lines started talking on Wednesday, I have a bridge to sell you. That isn’t how any of this works.

Although the agreement was struck, members have to vote on the terms. The country avoided literally shutting down. Unless there was a deal or Congress intervened, the country would have quickly come to a standstill. So, simply, all parties agreed to terms. This, as they say, isn’t rocket science. Biden had nothing to do with the settlement other than (with the help of lapdog media) taking credit for it. Politico called it another “major win” for Biden. It’s a win for the country because had the sides not agreed, the country would have come to a screeching halt. The negotiators knew that and settled. Biden appeared at the White House to “reveal” that the sides had come to terms. Union guys made sure to give Biden an “atta-boy”.

I remember as a boy watching a railroad union spokesman on TV. He was telling reporters that he had gotten a letter from a mother begging for a settlement because she didn’t want Christmas ruined — and that was why the union had settled. I actually believed that until my dad disabused me of that fiction. “He’s lying, Jim. It’s all theater.”

Biden taking credit for this settlement is all theater.

He should take his junior conductor’s hat and choo-choo set and go away.

And the strikes not off the table yet.
Nearly a month after President Biden announced that a deal had been reached between railroad companies and their unions, the deal has fallen apart, raising concerns for a possible strike.

The Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the Teamsters, one of the nation’s largest railroad unions, rejected the deal on Monday, expressing discontent with the number of paid sick days, according to the Washington Post.

On the news this morning they said the vote to strike was mid November. Curious timing.

I hate unions but I support them fucking every one of these corporate fuck sticks possible. Starbucks, Chipotle, railroad all of em. Fuck them all equally.

Go woke then cry fowl when your workers beat you at your own game.

Oh fuck I didn't realize they were part of the teamsters now it all makes sense. Biggest bunch of cry tit bitches on the face of the earth that are gainfully employed.
