What's new

Quad thread spinoff: are you spending money right now?

I'm spending on longer term stuff, or stuff I can add value to with labor, and hoarding the rest. I figure I'll need 30k on the low end to get my house "done" with builder grade shit

I bought a dump in the mountains for a retreat, but I'm in a holding pattern until after the election, maybe I fix it, maybe I replace it with a new mobile or a modest cabin, or maybe I park a camper there for the summer and tinker on the house at a slow place

I've got a new tow rig in my cart  But that's not happening until after election

I also check the copper price every day to make sure I'm still employable, if that drops, spending stops

One time a guy said something pretty profound and simple "people will spend money if they think they can replace it"

There's probably more wisdom in that than 6mo of MBA class:laughing:

Got three oil tanks perfect for a smoker builder. Don’t seem to be any of those guys around here.

A buddy is ordering a new smoker trailer...

That’s awesome! The smoke trailers we use are old fuel oil tanks and the cool ones… the really cool ones have trailer wheel bearings that actually spin so you can move them.

For him I think its a waste of money, but historically he likes to cook and did smoke meats...

I suggested a tailgate trailer might be more useful.

As lomg as the EV/green push is on you are gonna be fine.

Yes but... it's a market with a lot of speculation, a lot of future contracts, a lot of physical stockpiles, so the price can drop pretty steep for 6mo before starting to recover

The mines bring in manpower and contractors when the price is up, and make deep cuts when it drops. $4lb seems to be the line where decisions are made, it's 4.20:laughing:

So basically I look at the price and decide if I'm going to smoke weed and work on my house and not need to get a job for 23 days or however long I figure it'll take to pass a piss test:laughing:

Solid plan. :smokin:

Texas is a big place... "here" could be some shit hole town of 2500 with mediocre BBQ while good stuff is 30 miles away.

If he's talking about Texas in general and somehow doesn't like brisket then he's a gay offering up his opinion of pussy. What he's saying should be ignored as it's not applicable.

:flipoff2:

I've eaten BBQ all over this state and it all sucks. Why do y'all think that the meat is supposed to taste like a forest fire? And ketchup and vinegar is NOT BBQ sauce.... :flipoff2:

Shots fired!

If you don't know what good BBQ tastes like I guess you can't miss it....:flipoff2:

:lmao:

See above...
My dad talked about building one for years then ended up getting a good deal on somebody else’s unfinished project. He did a few cook offs and it was nice rolling in with a gooseneck and full shade. Now he uses it at home in one spot and only moves it to mow.

If you’re eating in chains or the overly popularized best in Texas by Texas Monthly, I can see it. You need to find the hole in the wall places. Hook up with 45acp and have him direct you to the nearest half fallen down shanty with an old black gentleman that’s cooking BBQ on a pit that looks like it will give you tetanus. It will change your mind.

I was gonna say old black man needs to be near the smoker...:lmao:

I ain't directing him to shit. His taste buds are all fucked up.

"Hey slowpoke... there's a Domino's pizza right over there. Get after it."

Ok there. I directed him.

Outside of necessities, and a small budget of booze and tacos, I'm not shy about things that hold value or I plan to use for life. A lot of what the zombie horde would consider to be non essential has been pretty steadily priced where gas, groceries, rent, etc has gone apeshit.

Warming drawer is nice to have.
I went from fancy garbage with a warming drawer (came with the house) to fancy garbage with dual ovens (purchased for cheap because bad circuit board and fixed) Having the half height oven on top is a million times more useful than the drawer. You can always set it to warm if you want but having the tiny little oven that goes 0-400 in 3min is real nice.

I'm broke, so no. But if I wasn't broke, I'd be broke from buying land and getting out of town, so still broke.

Not spending anything major, debt free other then my house and it will be paid off in 19 months. Waiting to see what the next election up here in chinada brings.
