What's new

Quad thread spinoff: are you spending money right now?

Getting ready to blow the savings on a house for the wife. Trying not to buy any more trucks or a dirt bike in the mean time but I'm starting to see deals.

A buddy is ordering a new smoker trailer...

Dang! Is that for his business or personal use?

Physical assets are mostly inflation proof, or at least they will be worth something as trade goods when SHTF.
I'm not much on leaving cash in the bank with the current environment.

I've been on a classic car buying bender, people are unloading their projects at reasonable discounts lately it seems. Don't know if it's a great investment, but I'm having fun at least.

Been buying tools, I figure inflation is only gonna get worse, might as well get it now.

Haven't bought any new toys but I've been buying shit to fix the ones I got and keeping an eye out for things I'll need for projects I haven't started yet.

Picking up a few toys because others have debt they need to pay off. Picking up an XJ tomorrow and looking for a nice mtn bike for the wife. Going to Mt Rushmore next month and Germany in January. I have to much stuff, but if I can justify it for business it’s a 30% discount, and I only buy toys in cash money. If mortgage interest would come down, we’d pay off 1 house and try to find another rental house. I figure if we had 4 rental houses that were paid for, I could quit my other work and just be a slum lord.

I've been spending cash on projects and shop stuff and haven't changed much there but I'm not looking to take debt right now.

Bought a used motorcycle end of July.
Watching my spending, trying to put away a lot, if my health/work holds up, the mortgage loan is paid off this time next year.

Likely selling off some toys unless market bottoms out next summer, want to simplify my life a little.

Also in the not taking on debt camp, unless I can pay cash I do not need it.

the only debt i have is new trucks. and i could sell some metal and pay those off. i bought another tl140 ctl for 17k a month or so ago. i really don't like to have over 20k in cash anymore. it just seems to be worth less every day.
and if some more land came up adjoining mine for a good price i would step off and go back into debt.

Just on tools and materials for the house.

I’d gladly burn 6 figures and possibly pick up a little debt if I could stumble on the right piece of land or small house that needs work

I doubt my reasoning makes any sense, but I'm currently making some big-dollar purchases right now before they install Harris.

About $20K went to a new-to-me car which I kind of needed anyway. But $20K was a splurge when there are reliable $8K cars out there. Also about to drop another $10K to have my driveway paved.
Similar. I just bought a new truck. I did however sell 2 trucks in the process. I'm possibly going to buy a TJ this coming weekend. My plan is to pay the new truck off at the first of the year.

I am in the process of building a small get away house and garage on some property I have but it's on a 3 year plan so I'm not dropping a shit ton of money all at one time.

Tools, house\property, enclosed trailer, camping stuff.

Added a mini-split and a standing seam roof will be soon installed on the house.

Replaced all fasteners on the garage roof (corrugated metal) and slowly framing\insulating it.

Long term plan, looking for a large chunk of land

Yes but with hesitation and saving. Bought a golf cart.

I am currently buying a boat, it was my dad's fishing boat. He passed away in June and I am purchasing it from my mom. I am currently making the payments directly to my mom. Then when the will is probated I will get a loan and purchase the boat legally. That is $18k I didn't expect to spend, however I spent a lot of time fishing with my dad on it, it was one of my dad's prized possessions and it's worth probably about $30-35k...

I am currently looking to replace the motor in one my project jeeps. I am about to pull the trigger and either have the factory 304 rebuilt for $2,700 or I am thinking about getting a vortec 4.3 with adapters and everything for about $2,000... I am ready to move forward, but I need to make up my mind on which I want to do.

I just had a cow butchered, which all and all I am saving $ over the next year-year and a half, but up front it was about $2,000 (cow, feed, butcher) up front cost. However, we now have 1.5 freezers full with approximately 600 lbs of beef! :grinpimp:

So ya.... I'm not saving much money at this point in time... lmao!

Been on a tool kick again, can always justify that. Buying a plot of land soon, working on building a house. Will sub it all out, I hate carpentry and it hates me worse.

No, but only because I'm moving in at the end of November and trying to get some shit paid off so I'm back to being debt free sometime in the first half of next year and going to need to buy furniture. Not planning on going crazy on new shit or anything, but I basically don't have anything other than a bed, dresser, and computer desk. Mattress/box spring need to be replaced but no point til after I move because I can't fit anything bigger than a full in the current place.

I’m wishing I had bought a 3/4 ton instead of the F150 so I am sort of looking at trucks. Also trying to buy 4 acres on the state road for another shop but buying raw land is tough if you want to finance some of it. And I would buy it, level. Most of it and gravel it then add the shop and do a lot of the work myself which means a building loan won’t work.

Right now? Nope. We spent an assload of fun money this year in general though. And then got caught with a unforseen expense, and now we're just playing catch up with that.

I had my furnace and ac/heatpump replaced instead of trying to just patch the 20 year old unit together. Normally I would have done that myself and saved about 1/2, but somehow I was feeling rich. Now I'm carpet shopping, been putting that off too long.

I just went back to a 3/4 ton from a 1/2 ton. The 1/2 ton stayed with me longer than I figured it would when I bought it. Five years is a recent record for me.

We are knocking out a few house projects. Started as "I want a new couch" and escalated. The house needed some updates, so it is what it is.

Always have a garage project rolling, but try to keep it within reason.

I am just scared, not sure what about so just saving money. Must be cheap because all the toys I look at seem over priced.

I dropped 2k on a smoker. Another 2k on another beater backup car to have on hand/save on gas. But other than that no not really. But then i never do
